We traveled during July 2021 with a quite full fridge to Bilbao for the first time.
no checks made. Someone posted the other day to say  they were checked but the officials lturned a bling eye.
we’re going to Spain end of this month via the tunnel on this occasion and again will take a reasonable amount, mostly milk.
we won’t be taking any meats etc due to the superb quality offered abroad both in France and specially Spain.

All or most of the toll stations have been dismantled, certainly on the Mediterranean motorway from France to the Costa Blanca.

one new LAW coming out or maybe made law already is.
it’s illegal for the front passenger to use a mobile phone while in motion.

This is the earlier Out&AboutLive forum thread about a motorhome's fridge being checked at Santander

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/topic/59681-fridge-checked-at-santander/#comment-704799

and this link is to the long MotorHomeFun forum discussion from which the information was copied

The UK Government advice on Spain/food can be found here

No I don’t have a link, but while talking in our 2nd home town of ALmoradi with local and national police it was talked about that discussions had been going on for some time and would be made legal.
this was during July 2021

There are plenty of on-line articles about Spanish mobile phone-related law- revisions that occurred in March 2022 - this is one example

https://n332.es/mobile-phone-questions-answered/

I can't find anything about a Spanish law that specifically prohibits any front-seat passenger from using a mobile phone whenever a vehicle is in motion. However, there are 'in certain circumstances' recent UK rules about this and similar rules MIGHT also be relevant  in Spain. The UK rules are explained here

https://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/2020/01/you-can-now-be-fined-for-using-a-mobile-phone-in-the-passenger-seat/#:~:text=Using Your Phone As A Passenger,-The law mentioned&text=If you are in a,lose concentration of their surroundings.

Yes, the UK rule is summarised as follows

Can passengers in cars use their mobile phone?

It is perfectly acceptable for passengers to use their mobile phone in the car, as long as they do not pass it to the driver or require the driver to touch the phone at any point. Passengers supervising learner drivers, however, cannot use a mobile phone while the car is running.

(As I said above, I wasn't able to find anything on-line stating that similar rules applied in Spain.)

As I said it was in discussion in Spain in July 2021 and will be made law 🤞🏻, personally I hoped it would be by now and will find out how it’s going when we return to Spain soon. It makes sense for passengers not to use a mobile while in motion

the other day a car passed me in town ( dual carriageway) and the passenger was turning the mobile to show the driver whom was looking to his left to view the screen  you might say not illegal, but so so dangerous for everyone

it has been law in the Uk for passenger’s while travelling with a learner is an offence.

I'm sure that distracting a driver by showing him ANYTHING is illegal, not just a phone.

I assume that in an accident a driver looking at someone else's phone ( or anything else the passenger was showing him ) would be held responsible for driving without due care and attention.

This link may be of interest (and, perhaps, be educational)

https://www.newtons.co.uk/news/illegal-things-to-do-while-driving/#:~:text=Just like listening to blaring, full control of your vehicle.

Paragraphs 1, 2, 5, 13 and 24  refer to the use of mobile devices in a vehicle, while para 30 says

30. Being distracted by your passengers

Just like listening to blaring music, if your passengers are distracting you while you’re driving, this could be classified as distracted driving. Remember that the police can stop you at any time if they feel you are driving distracted, and therefore not in full control of your vehicle.

If Spain has introduced (or will introduce ) a law regarding front-seat passengers using mobile electronic devices (phones, laptops, tablets, etc.) I'd expect it to be more 'subtle' than a basic prohibition.

I am currently in Portugal having crossed to Santander a month ago. No checks were being made on motorhomes, only vans. We had some frozen items and dairy but we're quite prepared to bin them if required.

I have a Bip and Drive transponder for Spain and Portugal (and one also for France) and wouldn't go without them. Bought in the UK from Emovis online. There are numerous toll roads in Spain and Portugal and the hassle of trying to avoid them to save some money can lead to longer drives sometimes on poor roads. Driving straight through toll booths not having to struggle with a card or cash is a huge bonus.

Driven all over Spain for the last fifteen years and never used a toll road.  Bad roads on non-toll alternatives are few and far between.

There are still a few toll roads in Spain, sometimes just sections of the same road are peaje.
