Alfie
My Hymer Exsis t habitation door lock has broken again. This time (after I heard something break in the mechanism) the outside handle doesn't work, but the inside one does. Has anyone any suggestions as to the problem please? Last time it was a broken spring which we managed to replace from Brownhills ebay site and fitted it ourselves. Thanks
Keithl
Have you tried dismantling the handle to see what has broken?
Alfie
Not yet. We managed to get into the mechanism from the inside last time to replace a spring which solved a problem with the locking mechanism, but haven't tried this time yet as we are about to go away and don't want to completely stop the door from opening (it still opens from the inside) If you can see the external door mechanism from the inside view we might be able to see what's broken, but suspect it might involve a lot of dismantling first. Derek Uzzell
Hymer has been marketing Exsis-t motorhome models for more than 10 years. Fortunately, although Alfie has not said when his motorhome was built nor which model it is, on-line photos suggest that the habitation-area entrance door has remained unchanged irrespective of an Exsis-t's age or model. Apparently the door itself is made by Hartal and the external handle is a FAP product of the type shown in this Brownhills advert. https://www.motorhomeshop.co.uk/h2586195-fap-habitation-external-door-handle The 'guts' of that FAP handle are shown here It's probable that repair would require removal of the handle and that this would involve first dismantling the door's inner trim panel. (NB. There seem to be several versions of this handle that look superficially the same from outside. So, if a replacement handle were needed, care should be taken to get the correct one.) Alfie
Thanks, ours is a 2017 Exsis t 474. Yes that does look like the correct door handle. Thanks again!
