That time again, annual insurance: recommendations ?

It’s that time again, and getting used to shopping around. That said, having been with caravan and motorhomes club for maybe 12 years I’m disappointed, in more than one respect.

I was 75 in October but shocked to receive a quote with a 70% increase, so I wonder what companies or brokers you are all using?

Recommendations would be good (maybe I’ll SORN it for a couple of months, not sure yet)

I suspect it’s everyone’s insurance going up alarmingly. I am early 70’s and my car insurance went up from £207 to £302. I tried go compare and then some other insurers directly and could not get below that £302 price. I am wondering what will happen to Moho insurance.

I think all types of insurance has increased.

My Comfort renewal went up by around 20% and like Peter, shopping around did not improve my options, so I've continued with them on the camper.

Strangely, I have a multi-car policy to cover both modern and classics, this has always stayed pretty much the same but had decreased slightly for this year.

Right at the time of renewal I sold one of the classics [so around 20k less exposure to the provider] only to be told that the policy was 'loaded' to cover a minimum amount of vehicles, this reduction to the fleet caused the policy to increase by £35!

You just need to shop around, but I wouldn't SORN your van without insurance!

My insurance went up from £230 to £340 with Staveley Head. Managed to get it for £280 with Caravan Guard, spent a lot of time on comparison sites and contacting specialist brokers. Quotes varied from £255 (not sure about the company, had poor reviews, so avoided), to well over £600.

As above all insurances seem to have risen by large amounts in the last year or so. 18months ago we had three insurances with Saga, motorhome, car, and landlord, now we only have the motorhome with them, and that was only because of haggling hard and them having a good price for the European breakdown cover. Next year who knows, it's the compare sites who will determine.

Beware about changing insurance companies as you get older. Most companies will either increase premiums and also refuse to take you on at all. I am over 80 and no company will take me on, so I stick with the CAMC.

All premiums have rocketed this year as I discovered with my car insurance recently, and even the best offer from numerous comparison sites was double last year's premium.
