Poor radio reception

Recommended Posts

So an X/250 model iirc. The radio aerial should be in one of the door mirrors, I think the passenger side from previous posts here. I also think it may be a powered amplifier type so will have a power supply to it, check fuses for one called 'Aerial' or something like.

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums.

It's perhaps worth highlighting that there are MANY motorhome forum complaints about poor radio reception from owners of vehicles based on Peugeot Boxers or Fiat Ducatos. So, if you haven't owned your 2007 Compass Avantgarde 100 long and find the radio reception crap, that's quite possibly 'normal' for the breed.

This 2011 O&AL forum discussion refers and mentions the radio aerial of a 2007 Boxer-based motorhome being within the UK-nearside door-mounted mirror.

However, further down the discussion, it's suggested that not all Boxers/Ducatos have as standard a nearside door mirror with an integrated aerial.

As you are getting some (albeit crappy) radio reception, it's logical to assume that the radio has an aerial and, as that aerial is not visibly obvious (I've seen them mounted on the front wing of Boxer/Ducato-based motorhomes) it's likely to be in the nearside mirror.

If that's the case, I don't think replacement of the aerial alone is practicable, and replacing the complete mirror would not be cheap and might not improve reception.

For what its worth we had absolutely rubbish radio reception from a mirror aerial and then an internal windscreen mounted aerial on our 2009 FIAT Roller Team.

The only thing that worked perfectly was when we had a specialist audio company fit a wing mounted aerial.

It was worth the cost.
