Apols if this a silly question, I see you have a book thread which is great for me, but hoping to take up photography in my retirement - do you have a thread suggesting good digital cameras and your experiences.... a bit new so not used to the search engine ... keep failing miserably with it.

What's the Camera then Dave ?It is a good piccy captured it nicely and I note darkness was setting in .

Hi 'Chele, it's a Sony Alpha 200 digital SLR, got a good deal I beleive (lol) :-D . Found the best price on the web for camera body, 18-70zoom lens and a 75-300 zoom lens package, printed it out and went to my local Jessops branch and asked how close could they get. By the time they'd added a free camera bag and discounted a 2Gig ultra fast memory card there was less than a tenner in it so I went for it.

Basic spec is 10.2 Megapixel sensor with optical stabilisation built in so it works with any lens (very handy). takes 3.2 frames per second continuous and has all the right options, full manual, full auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, macro, sport, portrait, landscape. you name it, it does it :D .

Actually darkness was officially a few hours away but it was a dull evening and the light wasn't good. Hopefully next week I can go along again and the weather will be better. Its just wrong having to wear a thick, lined fleece on a July evening :-( .

Hi Jouster, there isn't a thread dedicated to photography I'm afraid but there are a few regular forumites who are a bit handy with a camera (have a look at Way2go's thread on motorhome matters about the recent Fairford air show). A lot depends on what type of photography you're interested in, still life, landscape, sports, life models 8-), wildlife etc or even just photography in general. do you want to get into full on SLR costs or would a compact point and shoot suit your needs?

A good starting point would be some of the specialist photography magazines, amateur photographer is just one that springs to mind. If you have nay more specific photgraphic questions why not start a new thread to ask them in ;-) . I do hope I haven't put you off :-) .

The trouble is having to reduce file size to upload pictures on here so you cannot appreciate the full quality of the pics I always try to use appature priority set at about f11 if light conditions allow without a tripod the higher the f No the sharper the image.

davenewell@home - 2008-07-16 9:18 PM I took this shot of my mate water skiing this evening with my new camera. I'm well chuffed with this one!

Hey Dave, I've only just spotted this.  Great picture matey.

Good action shot and I love the 'frozen' water effect.  It looks as though you've quickly made friends with the new camera.

Very good effort . . . . any more forthcoming?
