mirror cover

This advert relates to a 2007 Rapido 9048DF (which I assume is the model you have)

https://www.motorhomedepot.com/vehicle/rapido-9048df?make=Rapido

and I’ve attached below an image of the vehicle’s right-hand exterior rear-view mirror.

I notice that, in May 2016, you mentioned twice having knocked off the “cover” of your Rapido’s mirror and referred to Milenco mirror protectors.

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Mirror-guards-/41791/

I’m unsure what you are actually asking about now. Mirror ‘protectors’ (like those marketed by Milenco, MirrorGuard etc.) are suitable for certain makes/models of motorhome that retain the original cab and original mirrors - but such protectors will be unsuitable for your A-class Rapido that has a unique body and specialised mirrors. So, if you wanted mirror PROTECTORS, it’s near certain they will be unobtainable.

If you are looking for the white-plastic front part of the mirror (arrowed on the image) I don’t know where you might get this as an individual item. Rapido MIGHT still have complete mirrors on its shelves (at enormous cost) or you MIGHT find a secondhand Rapido motorhome being scrapped that has the same mirrors as yours.

This firm has been suggested in the past as a potential source of mirrors for A-class motorhomes and might be worth trying

http://www.carlylebusandcoach.com/products/mirrors/

and this 2017 MHFun forum thread discussed replacement mirror ‘casings’ for older Rapido A-class-model mirrors.

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/new-casing-for-fiat-rapido-wing-mirror.151248/

(What’s the “bulb holder” for and where is it on the motorhome? Without such information (and a photo would help) there’s little chance of providing useful advice.)

A follow-up...

There was an enquiry here in December 2020 asking about obtaining a replacement for a damaged mirror on a 2004 Rapido 924F motorhome (that should have the same mirror as a 2007 9048DF)

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Rapido-924f-2-8-2004-wing-mirror/57007/

I notice that the original posting of that thread said "The outer casing is half missing, including the indicator but the motor and part that holds the mirror glass in is still there”, so I’m guessing that the bulb-holder you’ve mentioned relates to a direction-indicator that’s part of the mirror’s ‘casing’.

Another follow-up - this time more on a ‘for what it’s worth' basis.

I notice that - besides marketing protectors for the standard mirors fitted to Citroen/Fiat/Peugeot cabs - the Mirror Armour company also advertises protectors for the mirrors of certain Frankia, Pilote and Rapido A-class motorhomes.

https://mirror-armour.co.uk/

The Rapido A-class protectors come in two shapes (curved or inner-U)

https://mirror-armour.co.uk/collections/a-class-rapido/products/a-class-mirror-armour

BUT ARE ONLY SUITABLE for the higher-mounted, less-vulnerable-to-knocks, ‘bus style’ mirrors that Rapido began to fit to A-class models in 2009. (Image attached below)

In the 2017 MHFun thread I provided a link to above there was a posting describing how a replacement mirror casing might be made from GRP, and in the 2020 O&AL forum thread there was an enquiry about 3D-printing the casing. 3D printing a new casing should certainly be possible nowadays (it was discussed here in December 2020 in relation to an awning end-cap)

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Omnistor-Awning-5000-left-hand-end-cap/56854/

but I don’t know what the cost might be.

Hi I am trying to find a mirror cover for a 2007 Rapido 9048 plus a bulb holder, has anyone any ideas please.

Give these people a ring, they will make you some for about £250 per pair. I've just found them recently and have ordered the exact same thing as you need.

https://motorhomebumpers.com

They're normally specialists in boats hence they're actual name A W Marine. Based in Canvey Island.

Hope this helps.

As Steve mentioned needing a "bulb holder" in his original posting I think he is looking for a 'casing' for his Rapido's mirror (presumably the right-hand one as that is usually the victim in the UK) rather than a 'protector' like the sort of product being marketed by Mirror Armour.

Will A W Marine be making for your motorhome 'mirror protectors' that will fit over the fronts of the mirrors, or replacement front 'casings' for the mirrors themselves?

(Feedback from Steve would be nice - even my nuclear-powered AI crystal-ball staggers sometimes. :-( )

If you can't mind read, you are not as clever as I always thought you are!!

It was the cover with the red arrow thanks.

1 dealer had one wanted £740. 00 fitted. Another supply only £1500 plus I stopped listening to the odd ££.

I have managed to get the bulb holder, and a new glass.

The white case is whole although the lugs the screws go into (inside the casing) are broken, but I think I may be able to get them repaired.

I will check out the info you have given me.

Not sure how to attach a photo so sorry.

Many thanks for your help it is really appreciated.

Kind Regards

Steve Kelly

Hi

These will be copied of the original mirror backing. Check the link out, there a whole load of parts for all sorts of brands, including Rapido, and they're all way cheaper than original parts. They will even try and make an item specially if you have enough of a damaged item remaining if it's not listed on their site.So glad I found these, I reckon they'll do quite well out of making these often nigh on impossible items to obtain.

Hi Steve, You mentioned in your post of 13 May 2021 that you had managed to source a bulb hold and glass. I'm also looking for a replacement indicator repeater for my 9048DF. Could you tell me where you sourced the part please.

Nick,

Steve has not logged on to the forum for over a year now but he has an email address in his profile so if you click on his username you will be able to email him and ask.

...I am working entirely from distant memory here, so don't take this as gospel.

The 9048 had either upward facing mirrors, or downwards (earlier and later models).

I have a distinct memory of it being stated that the mirror indicator glass/holder for the earlier (upward facing) mirrors was in fact the same as a contemporaneous Fiat 500 side (wing not mirror) indicator repeater. My interest is that I had a 2006 Rapido with upward facing mirrors.

A quick check of images indicates that it could possibly be true. I'm far from certain, but it is probably worth a check, as it would provide a relatively easy source.

As for the downward-facing mirrors, I can't see a repeater in those on any pictures, so am unable to check.
