I think it's a great decision. There's nothing wrong with Hull and it could do with some positive publicity especially as too many people are so quick to denigrate the city.

We went there for a week on our boat down the humber from Newark and were impressed with the town with some nice pubs. Only thing we weren't impressed with was not being able to get a meal after about 8 o'clock. I hope that has changed.

I despair I really do.

They seem to think they can replace proper jobs in mining and manufacturing industries by building art galleries.

There is a £30 million one in West Bromwich, right in the middle of all the derelict factories - nobody in it even though its free. Another in Margate the same. The only ideas these politicians have to rebuild the economy they have ruined is more of the same - tax, borrow, and waste.

I thought it was 'city of comedy' but then again they have the biggest fool in the UK living there. They better not allow any attractive girls near the place for safety reasons.

All you MH owners can pop along, park for free no doubt and enjoy the sophistication on offer. Alternatively just get on the P&O ferry and enjoy Europe, not a lot of difference methinks??

Unfair. Liverpool has a world class orchestra in the Philharmonic, some superb architecture, museums and art galleries and the Albert Dock is brilliant.

Even more importantly, it has probably what is Britain's most beautifully fitted and best-stocked specialist photographic shop in the country. Modesty forbids me from mentioning it's name of course!

No they don't. Why do you assume that the two are mutually inclusive? I can't remember any government telling Toyota or Astra Zeneca or JCB that they can't open a new factory because there's going to be a super new art gallery in town.

Still, it's nice to see that you still have the same moaning, negative and pessimistic outlook on absolutely everything. God knows why you bother getting up in the morning. Surely you're better staying in bed and wallowing in your pit of despair and not reading newspapers or watching the news, as all of it seems to upset you.

Do you mind not coming on here with positive and optimistic views. It really is too much. Don't you know that Chatterbox is for whinging and moaning about everything and everyone?

Shame on you you uncaring trouble-maker!

Currys? John Lewis? What is it about the term 'specialist photographic retailer' that you don't understand?

I amazed you haven't mentioned Comet!

I should have said mutually exclusive of course! My brain wasn't in gear and when I read it later it hit me!

The mining and manufacturing jobs in West Brom etc had already gone, before they were replaced with the Art gallery. But I would expect you to be in favour of that. Mining and manufacturing is difficult. If you don't know what you are talking about there you will soon be found out. Wheras anyone can claim to be an expert on Art *-)

You do talk the most utter tosh! The mining and manufacturing jobs were 'replaced' by an art gallery? It's like saying that all the mining jobs have been replaced by a new swimming pool!

What the hell has one got to do with the other?

And as for suggesting that there is no manufacturing in West Bromwich! The mind boggles! Do a quick Google, you may be surprised!

But what I find most depressing about your attitude is that you seem to believe that working class people can't be interested in art and culture.

Good God chaps, what do these working class oiks want music and art for! As long as they've got the odd bingo hall they'll be happy!

Shame on you!

I visit my local museum and art gallery regularly and they have some superb exhibitions. And guess what? There are lots of other 'ordinary' people there as well!

I'm doing my bit to break the mould Frank. I know it's an uphill task. But one can but try. I'm sick to death of the moaning and whinging old buggers on here. Like you said, "why do they bother to get up in the morning" why indeed?.

Not sure if you missed the smilies Frank. The L/P is certainly a great orchestra, I know that because a distant relative of mine used to be in it and I think he was lead violinist at one time, haven't seen him for years.

St George's Hall is a great piece of architecture. Albert Dock's, well I think everyone should go to Liverpool just to see that. You forgot the Cathedral, awesome. Also the other famous buildings like the Liver and Cunard.

Just a bit of history about it's murky past. Did you know that in the cellars of some of the shops on Duke St have iron rings still in the walls where they fastened slaves to, very spooky. It's easy to imagine them half naked chained together and taken up from the docks to be held in the cold damp cellars.

Any cellars in your shop for when the staff start to play up? :-D

Good luck to Hull, hope they can pull it off. Success is not a bad thing.

Some how I don't think The Hull Philharmonic sounds right.

Frank's only got iron rings in the walls of his cellar at home, where he and his pals indulge in a little bit of S&M at the weekend. To relieve the stresses of the working week. (lol) (lol) :$ :$ :$
