F1005705
Hello, We are about to buy our first motorhome from a private seller and want to get a mechanical inspection carried out, however as its plated at 4000kg then the AA, RAC and Dekra can't do it as they will only do upto 3500kg. Anyone know a mobile inspection company that will carry checks on a 4000kg motorhome? We will also get the a full habitation check done as well as Hpi to be belt and braces. Any help appreciated
Billggski
Any garage should do it, but try your local authority testing station. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-mot#hidden They should give an impartial assessment

F1005705
Hi Keithl Just checked their t&c's and its checks upto 3500kg!. Does anyone know why this is? Is it to do with the lifting equipment to check the underside or is it a qualification/certification thing? After all the engine and running gear is based on a Fiat Ducato 2008......... Derek Uzzell
The terms and conditions actually say "All orders are accepted by us and carried out by the inspector on the understanding that the Maximum Gross Vehicle weight does not exceed 3.5 Tonnes although some exceptions can be made to this rule.” so you might find that a 4.0-tonne motorhome could be handled. The reason for the 3500kg limit may simply be that, as motorhomes get heavier and larger they tend to become more complex and more technically sophisticated and more difficult to check thoroughly. It also rules out USA-built RVs that are a law unto themselves. Easiest thing would be to ask the company itself about the 3500kg threshold, when you could also see if they could make the motorhome you are interested in an exception.
