Spireite
Has anyone bought a Solar Powered 12V 1.5W Battery Auto Trickle Charger from Maplin? Are they be any good or a waste of money ?
Keithl
IMO - A waste of money! Think about it, 1.5 Watts is MAXIMUM output, ie in bright sun. This time of year you will get next to nothing! It wouldn't even keep up with a 1.5 Watt light bulb running from the battery. How bright is your interior light, 6 Watts, so no chance. It might be OK for a couple of weeks in the summer, say parked in an airport car park, but otherwise really don't bother. Keith. Edit to add: 1.5 Watts is quoted at 1,000 W/m2 of solar. That is Death Valley (USA) levels of solar!!! (100 mW/cm2 converts to 1,000 W/m2 which is a unit I understand).
aandncaravan
A Motorhome with an 80w Solar panel that came to us just after Christmas was outputting 0.4amp at 11:00 on a cold bright sunny day to a run down battery. About typical for that size of panel/installation. If that is roughly 60 times the power of the Maplin trickle charger, you can work out how useful it is going to be? I would suggest it won't even tickle the battery let alone Trickle it?
