Derek Uzzell
The relevant MOT Inspection Manual can be viewed here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/585905/mot-inspection-manual-classes-3-4-5-and-7.pdf Section 5.4 covers supplementary restraint systems (eg. airbags) fitted as original equipment. Method of Inspection - "Check that the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) does not indicate a fault in the system”. Reason for Rejection - "A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp indicating a system malfunction." As far as I’m aware the rule applies to any vehicle having an airbag system as original equipment.

silverback
hi Trevor, the airbag light means it will fail, and if it can't be reset it means a new ecu for the airbag system about £700 there are at least 5 ecu's in a fiat, mine could not be reset so it needed a new one, but because i had a full fiat service history the garage rang fiat and they waived the charge even the fitting....so result, also i have an extended warrenty but that did not cover airbag failure. 2012 2.3 fiat regards Jonathan
9orchard
Thanks for your info I was afraid it might end up that way but do have an air bag technician coming with a van full of computers and reset equipment im just hoping hes as good as every one says. Thanks again Trevor
9orchard
The airbag light is still on as I've been in hospital for ten days and still cant get it to fiat specialist but it does not look good but must wait to get diagnosed. I never did anything and its not quite 5 years old but I bet its not covered even though its does have service history but again I will have to ask about this. colin
Have recently taken one of my Suzi's for service//MOT which had airbag light on, garage checked all under seat connections to 'tighteners' and reset light, problem gone, he said it's a common problem on cars and seems connected to moving the seat, fingers crossed it's the same for you.
