potus4388
I am looking to buy a compressor for my motorhome and wonder if anyone has any advice on a good one to go for? There seem to be so many different ones out there which makes it difficult to know the best ones, practical experience from members would be invaluable. Mains and 12 volt connection would seem sensible but would be interested in your views. Thanks. John
tonyishuk
If you search the archives (search the forums tab above). You will find useful information. There is consensus of opinion that the plug into 12v outlets are not that good (that depends on final pressure and volume you want to pump) and a direct connection to a battery is better. In the case of Fiats , via the jumpstart live point connection. I purchased a twin cylinder mains pump with small tank as I intend to use air elsewhere, bike tyres, air brush, air blow cleaning etc. Too large to sensibly carry as a mobile pump on a day to day basis in the mhome Rgds
Brock
I run mine off the motorhome's leisure battery using clamps. Make sure you get one that will reach all your tyres including any spare. Mine is a Ring RAC900. Only used it to top up the tyre pressures [max 5.5 bar] and I don't normally rate Ring products. However it works. http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/tyre-inflators-pressure-gauges/ring-heavy-duty-tyre-inflator-rac900 Just watch the price because Europarts have it at £137 on the internet, Halfords and Amazon at £75 which seems about right from memory. Dave R1664232361
I have not had much luck with 12V compressors having seized several due to the van pressures although I do carry one in the van just in case it is needed. For routine tyre topping up I bought a mains compressor from Halfords which is also good for the family cars.
Wasnt Me
Did you want one to take in the motorhome that is portable? I bought one from Aldi it's brilliant if you have the space. Hope this helps
hallii
I have owned several 12v compressors, I did research and even tested one last time I purchased. It is my belief that there is not a reliable 12v compressor that will pump up to 70 psi consistently (although I am open to being convinced otherwise). By that I mean that it might work when new, my existing one did, but now, after no more than say 6 uses it will not reach the required pressure and takes forever. I intend to buy a 230v one and run it off the inverter. Maybe it will last a bit longer? H
tonyishuk
If my memory serves me. in the archives there are a couple of recommendations, one for a 240V mains tyre inflator (Brian ?) and a double cylinder 12V (Derek?) . Could be corrected on that ? Rgds

I bought one of these, and am pleased with it's performance, easily inflates up to 80psi. Not to be confused with the usual 12v pumps.

Rgds The T-Max 12V inflator I have is in fact a single-cylinder pump. http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Tyre-Inflation/48185/ As I said in the above link "My T-MAX 12V compressor will raise the pressure of a 215/70 R15CP tyre from 65psi to 80psi in under 5 minutes and stays relatively cool doing this”. Basil
Had you considered one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ducato-Smart-Emergency-Repair-Compressor/dp/B01002XA54 no need to use the Slime stuff but as the compressor is supplied for the fiat Ducato that has no spare it should be capable of achieving the required pressure. vindiboy
I have a RING compressor cost about £65 but the cheapos are not worth the bother, does my van at 65 psi no bother and goes a lot higher.

david lloyd
I have been unfortunate enough to pick up slow punctures in two occasions and each time used the supplied 'Fix n Go' compressor (without using the gunk that comes with it) to keep the tyre inflated until I could reach a repairer. The supplied compressor did a great job but it is best to have the engine running whilst using it. David
EMS
I have used the Ring compressor for my Hymer Van with 75 psi with no problems, plus there is the gauge as an indicator of pressure.
