Many people thought Gordon Brown was OK as PM - history sees him otherwise.

Many people think Theresa May is a bad PM - history may well see her otherwise.

Not many Labour supporters think that Tracker! I think he should have stuck with No 11

“ OK” isn’t good enough Tracker, we deserve better.

Some will judge her by the number of cherries she manages to pick, others will judge her by austerity and the quality of public services when the dust settles.

Theresa May has spoken firmly and told the EU it's up to them to make a counter-proposal if they don't like her Chequers Plan - and given that we are now in the final phase of brinkmanship before agreement, that's seems to me to be a sensible approach.  She's made it clear that she really will take the Country out of the EU next March on WTO terms unless agreement is reached and the ball is now in their court.    Brinkmanship is an unavoidable feature of these sort of negotiations andshowing toughness is absolutely necessary.

But the Telegraph is reporting today that some of her Ministers are demanding a "Plan B" from her, an alternative to her Chequers Plan.  Maybe the Cabinet should still be thinking about options as part of the continuing engagement in negotiations but surely not in public view or leaked to the EU.  If any Cabinet Minister is talking to the Telegraph at this stage I'd like to know who - and I'd call it treasonous behaviour!

Then why attempt to dispute the fact it had fallen claiming it was "where it's been for months"?

Hi,

It's about time that we started flexing our muscles. Ever since the referendum, the EU have been free to say what they like ... threats and sneers ... while anybody in UK who has criticised the EU has been "severely frowned" upon by our media.

Maggie did not earn her respect (though I didn't like her), by turning the other cheek.

Power to Theresa's elbow!

pound has recovered a little since May's speech.

Anyone who watches the currency markets will tell you the greater the chance of a no-deal Brexit, the greater the pound falls.

Well I didn't.

Just that Brown didn't seem so bad when we got Cameron & Osborne.

And, in fairness to Brown if such a thing is possible for you, Brown's (and Blair's)worst decisions were supported by Cameron & Osborne.

Labour have been deliberately sitting on the fence, saying they respect the result of the Referendum but they would prefer a General Election, so that they could take over the negotiating with the EU, because Theresa is making a mess of it.  But Kier Starmer has set six unachievable tests for what we should be getting from the EU as Brexit benefits, so there is no realistic constructive proposal from them on Brexit at all.  Labour just want to stay uncommitted about Brexit and to get themselves into power.

I prefer Theresa's approach; I think she's getting as much as can be got.

<<< Labour have been deliberately sitting on the fence, saying they respect the result of the Referendum but they would prefer a General Election >>>

Hi,

Of course Labour want a General Election. Wouldn't you? But Labour's avowed intent is to get the Conservatives out, which to my mind is not suffucient reason to put them into power ... I mean, once they have achieved their goal, they won't have anything to do ... apart from telingl the electorate what we want, and then taxing us to pay for something that isn't quite what they said we wanted,

I used to live in a little Labour town in South Wales. I volunteered to participate in a series of surveys, designed to find out what the local population wanted from the Authorities. When it was all done and dusted, they published the results ... with the commentt that "The public neede educating". How dare they?"

Local businesses complained that DVLC was ruining them ... in order to keep their staff, they had to match Civil Service salaries ... scarcely the best paid jobs, in the scale of things. Tony Blair suggested that as living away from the Midlands and South East was cheaper, civil servants in West Wales, etc, should be paid less. IF he had established that precedent .... how long before he would extend it to state pensions? Socialism?

A council in North Wales wanted to introduce PINK badges, so that pregnant women could enjoy the same parking badges as disabled drivers. That idea didn't take off.

I have watched my prat of a son-in-law (now ex-SiL) take a year old baby shopping at 6PM ... so he could use a Parent and Child parking bay, and push a wheel chair through the heaving crowds in TESCO.

If some people get special concessions, others will contrive to get the same concessions. In mylittle town in South Wales, it was claimed that 25% of the population were disabled. Perhaps they counted the number of blue badges that had been handed out?
