Where did Tracker's post go?

Perhaps some ‘Moderator guidance’ would be useful...

If a contribution has nothing to do with motorhomes, don’t post it to one of the four forums in the “Motorhomes” group of forums - post it to the forum that’s most appropriate for it or, if you are unable to identify one, to the "Chatterbox” forum.

The stated purpose of each of the four forums in the “Motorhomes” group is

MOTORHOME MATTERS - Log on for friendly chat and seek advice from hundreds of motorhome enthusiasts like yourself.

HINTS AND TIPS - Pass on your favourite recommendations, hints and tips.

YOUR VIEWS - Vote on our monthly hot topic and give your views.

WARNERS SHOW NEWS - Find out all you need to know about our great shows here!

So, if you have a motorhome-related enquiry, ask on the MOTORHOME MATTERS forum or, if you have a motorhome-related hint or tip to pass on, tell people about it on the HINTS AND TIPS forum. (Don’t use the Hints and Tips forum for motorhome-related enquiries - it’s not intended for that and an enquiry made there will get much less ‘exposure’ than on Motorhome Matters.)

The stated purpose of the CHATTERBOX forum is "Chat about anything and everything...”

However, at the top of the Chatterbox forum’s home-page is a sticky, frozen thread ("Conditions of forum use and content standards”) that reads as follows:

"Can we please bring forum users' attention to Warners' Terms of Use Policy regarding content standards (which can be read in full here).

CONTENT STANDARDS

These Content Standards apply to any and all material which you contribute to our Site (including but not limited to articles, media, photographs, blog posts and videos) (Contributions), and to any Interactive Services associated with it.

You must comply with the spirit of the following standards as well as the letter. The Content Standards apply to each part of any Contribution as well as to its whole.

Contributions must:

- be accurate (where they state facts);

- be genuinely held (where they state opinions); and

- comply with all applicable laws in the UK and in any country from which they are posted.

Contributions must not:

- contain any material which is defamatory of any person;

- contain any material which is obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory;

- promote sexually explicit material;

- promote violence;

- promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;

- infringe any copyright, database right or trade mark of any other person;

- be likely to deceive any person;

- be made in breach of any legal duty owed to a third party, such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence;

- promote any illegal activity;

- be threatening, abuse or invade another's privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety;

- be likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person;

- be used to impersonate any person, or to misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person;

- give the impression that they emanate from us, if this is not the case; or

- advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act such as (by way of example only) copyright infringement or computer misuse.”

The warning that a contribution must not "be likely to.....annoy any other person” would seem to preclude much of the stuff that’s been posted to the Chatterbox forum over the last 3 years, but I doubt Warners really cares about the political ranting and raving that most of it is. And, as it’s apparent that the majority of Chatterbox entries are initiated by a small number of people that post there persistently, it’s reasonable to assume that what’s said on the Chatterbox forum does not offend them.

I wasn’t suggesting that action be taken against forum-members that use the Chatterbox forum for its stated purpose, but rather that material that’s appropriate for non-Chatterbox forums be assigned to the forum that’s most suitable.

The idea of ‘debating’ on the Chatterbox forum that’s just tagged on to a set of forums relating to leisure-pursuits seems odd to me - if I wanted to discuss politics I’d pick a website that specialised in that subject.

My view of Chatterbox is that it’s a necessary (if sometimes unpleasant) evil . Towns need sewage treatment plants and these can be smelly, but those plants are usually sited well away from housing areas. When a sewer in a housing area overflows people don’t like this and, when Chatterbox-style posting occurs in other forums here, it’s really not surprising that it provokes a complaint.
