renew c1 licence.

The Government have " made provision for bus and lorry drivers aged 45 and over to forego the need for a D4 medical in order to renew their driving entitlement. The licence will only be valid for one year instead of five years and the driver will need to submit a completed D4 when the licence is due for renewal in 12 months"

Perhaps they have likewise made provision for C1 'Grandfather Rights' licence short term renewal?

To answer my own question it appears that:

"This notice does not apply to any application to renew small lorry (C1) and minibus (D1 (101)) entitlements included on car licences issued before 1997."

It looks like DVLA have made no provision for renewing C1 licences for over 70s without a medical - which looks like an oversight. Has anyone tried ring DVLA to ask? Clearly if you can't get a medical done at present there should be some provision to renew for at least one year, like the lorry drivers.

Current locations with dates: Abergavenny, Glasgow, Horsham, Livingston, Middlesbrough, Northampton, Norwich, Purfleet, Shrewsbury, Stoke, Swindon, Wolverhampton, Wrexham. Please note sessions may not be at our usual clinic venues so check your confirmation email when booking."

And here is MMM's latest update from Gov.uk...

https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/news/dvla-warns-of-long-delays-for-motorhomers-c1-applications

Basically NO C1 postal applications for non essential drivers are being processed!

Keith.

But, the crucial point, if you CAN get a medical done and send it in with your application, you can continue to drive under the C1 entitlement pending processing.

Yes.

But even more importantly, if you do not submit a valid application INCLUDING a medical then you CANNOT continue driving any vehicle over 3,500 kg.
