teccer1234
my hymer 694, 2001 with alko chassis tag axel has fail mot with wheel bearing on offside rear 3rd wheel rough, also an advisory only on front offside wheel. the garage wants to know what make of bearings would be fitted, alko or fiat, I feel that the front wheel bearings should be fiat as it has nothing to do with alko chassis but not sure about the rear wheels? anybody know the answer? Grumpyman
I would contact Hymer as the constructor.
Keithl
You need to contact Al-Ko with details of your rear axle, it should have an identification tag with model and serial number, and ask for advice. Keith.
hallii
May I suggest that whatever you fit make sure that they are high quality ones. There is a lot of rubbish out there, they last a few thousand miles and they have had it. Been there..... H

H my garage said if I couldn't find out they would have the van in and check, if fiat they would get fiat bearings if alko they would get alko bearings. problem is if fiat they can get them directly from fiat quickly but if alko it would mean they would let me have the van back until they arrive sometime from alko. bottom line if it's fiat they would have the van just 1 day but if alko it means another call into the workshop ===== more money for 2 lots of work :-(
Derek Uzzell
Your motorhome’s front wheel bearings will definitely be Fiat, but I don’t know about the wheel bearings used for the stub-axles of the Al-Ko chassis. Al-Ko offers a huge variety of bearings https://www.alko-tech.com/en/damping/wheel-bearing-kit and (as Keith has suggested) you really need to identify the Al-ko rear axle and provide that information to Al-Ko to ensure that you get the correct bearings. For a quick answer, you might try asking Fraser Brown http://www.fraserbrowneng.co.uk/index.php?c=al-ko-axle-repair as they can probably say whether the rear wheel bearings are Al-Ko or not. hallii
Neither Alko nor Fiat make bearings, they will be made by a bearing manufacturer and if you hunt around you might find original manufacturer bearings on sale elsewhere. Most bearings are available from a bearing stockist, they will match 99% of them and will have SKF, FAG, Timkin, and other quality bearings. The problem is they will need the old bearings to match them. Good luck H
witzend
Near me theres a bearing stockist take any bearing to them and they match it by measurements used them many times over the years last one was for a Toyota pick up £80 from Toyota £34 from Western Bearings according to them hubs are made to match bearings size's not bearings to match hubs
snail
Hi, I don't know for sure but there is a possibility they may be taper roller bearings? Which are adjustable and easy to repack with fresh grease, i would ask the garage to check this and if so repack all four, could be just dry if only sounding/feeling rough and not excessive play in them Think it would be worth the garage taking one hub off to check this option
Derek Uzzell
The wheel-bearings used on the stub-axles of Al-Ko AMC chassis have been discussed here before (at least) three times. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Torque-settings-for-1996-Swift-Kontiki-rear-wheel-bearings/54669/ https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/ALKO-axle-identification/49493/ https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Hints-and-Tips/Swift-Kontiki-Al-Ko-Rear-Wheel-Bearings/15445/ There’s a good deal of on-line information about the wheel-bearings used on Al-Ko chassis (including a large Australian catalogue) but this relates to caravans and trailers. When the Al-Ko AMC chassis used on motorhomes and some commercisal vehicles is concerned, information/advice concentrates on maintenance (eg. regular greasing) of the bearings in the axle-tube, not on replacement of the wheel-bearings of the trailing-arms’ stub-axles.
