(lol) (lol) (lol) ................

Be very, very, careful what you wish for. Just do a little history, most of which you seem to have missed out on, before you get too glib over the break-up of the EU into 26 independent states all competing with each other for advantage. Just take a minute or two to look back at why the EEC/EU was formed, and why it came about. Are you really sure that was really a better world?

Hard core radical Brexiteers like Dave are desperate for the EU to fall and for Europe to fail in our wake. They probably know only too well that Brexit will damage the UK so they desperately need other countries to follow us down the hole or for the EU to fall apart. It wont happen of course.

When it does ;-) .........

We could call it the......Common Market (lol) (lol) (lol) .........

But he can't, can he? Free Trade areas need the co-operation of multiple states, and the development, over time, of trust that all participants will play by the rules. To create that trust, there has to be some shared administration that has to be given powers to oversee and mediate/adjudicate disputes - or no party will sign up. Doing that involves the transfer of some sovereignty from each state to that administration.

So, you circle back to regulations controlling what goods can be traded tariff free, and the elimination of non-trade barriers to prevent participants creating internal regulations that give them unfair advantage over others, including things such as provision of paid holiday, the length of the working day, the provision of accessible health care, restrictions on importing goods from non-member states and selling them into the FTA to the disadvantage of other members, etc. etc.

As I've already explained that the EEC was never called the "Common Market", except as a form of shorthand, and as the name of an organisation is incidental to what it does, it won't matter a tinker's cuss what it's called! Remember that the EEC was originally the European Coal and Steel Community, and only later became the European Economic Community, through the Treaty of Rome.

Beside all of which, we've already been there, and done that!

The European Free Trade Area was set up in 1960 in competition with the EEC by Austria, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and was later joined by Finland and Iceland. It had more members (7) than the EEC (6) at its inception, it now has just four. Now look which countries are in which group, and ask why? Even EFTA has its Council and its Secretariat. Also, look at this Wiki: https://tinyurl.com/y57zc9o9 and scroll down to "Relationship with the European Union: the European Economic Area" and just look at the overlaps, joint administrative functions, plus free trade agreements and negotiations EFTA already has/has under discussion.

And no, your escape hatch into EFTA isn't presently open to the UK. It has been explored, but is presently regarded as unlikely, because of resistance from Norway and Iceland, based in part on the size of our economy relative to theirs, making us, were we to join, the dominant member. I guess one might add to that founder member of EFTA in 1960, left 1973; late joiner of EEC 1973, left 2019. Potentially reliable member, or merely member of convenience??

You didnt read your link again did you ?

"However, some European experts are claiming they are ahead of the UK as other countries are administering second doses more quickly.

According to the Johns Hopkins University in the US, 0.81 per cent of the UK population has been fully vaccinated with both doses, lower than 0.95 per cent in France and 2.89 per cent in Denmark."

Why are you cross-posting? There is no graph in this thread and the thread where it is, you've already had it clearly pointed out to you over two days ago that the figure is for the total number of people who received all doses.

Okay I'll do the maths for you. And throw in a geography lesson for free.

The UK is one country.

The countries I listed are individual countries, each one is one. Each country is rolling out the vaccine as they determine it should be rolled out to their populations, as sovereign nations do.

To compare to the EU which is twenty seven of these independent nations grouped together would be like comparing the UK covid deaths with Mercosur rather than Brazil or Uruguay.

Well if you read the article it appears that they're not that bothered. But I suppose if you haven't got the death rate the UK has your success in returning your citizens to something approaching normality isn't determined by how quickly you van give a single jab to all your population.

Dictionary definition"A diplomat is a person appointed by a state", so no evidence they were EU staff. Who knows they might have been wearing Celtic shirts to show their SNP membership, although given his sexuality it was probably a Rangers shirt. You really are grasping at straws today aren't you ?
