Terry Mushroom
Does anyone have any tips, hints, warnings about catalytic converter cages? (I have a Benimar Mileo 202 2015 registration on Fiat base). Today I witnessed one being stolen in public car park in full view of shoppers. Which set me thinking, particularly about my Benimar parked in my drive!
Derek Uzzell
Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Michael. Over the years thare have been a few discussions here about the theft of catalytic converters. https://tinyurl.com/kw9xzx7z This 2019 forum thread is probably the most recent https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Fiat-Ducato-Cat-lock/51254/ though I’m not sure how up to date the information will be now, nor whether all the links provided in 2019 still work. Derek Uzzell
While insurance may cover (some of) the cost of replacing a stolen catalytic converter, the knock-on effect may subsequently prove financially unpleasant. This 2020 “The Guardian” article refers https://www.theguardian.com/money/2020/feb/01/catalytic-converter-thefts-hybrid-car-insurance-toyota-prius Besides products fronm Catloc, there’s this Armacat item. https://garrisonlocks.co.uk/van-locks-security-products-c1/armacat-catshield-catalytic-converter-protection-c3/armaplate-fiat-ducato-2006-onwards-armacat-p331

Terry Mushroom
Have looked at CatClamp MAXX at £275 + VAT plus £85 + VAT fitting fee at one of their their installers. They offer a deal if you insure your home through Comfort Insurance. (Which I do.) http://www.catsafe.org.uk/index.html Have tried to contact them all day by phone - leaving message to ring me back - but no reply. Have also emailed. There's a considerable price difference so am dithering. Am prepared pay for value but lack of response doesn't encourage me!
curdle
@Derek Uzzell: The Guardian article deals mainly with hybrids. Are conventional diesels being targeted in the same way? Are you aware of any thefts specifically from motorhomes? In South Africa VW Golf and Polo owners are having their headlights stolen in seconds. Terry Mushroom
HOURS LATER Have just discovered that the company supplying CatClamp MAXX in UK appears to be no longer trading!
Derek Uzzell
Evidently the Fleet Talk Ltd company that was handling the “CatClamp” products in the UK was dissolved in October 2017. (The internet’s much like Count Dracula - out of date stuff often lives on indefinitely.)
