dawki
Booked van in for service (Mercedes’ dealer) 2007 Mercedes sprinter 42,000 miles Asked them check why vehicle takes around 10 seconds to start at the start of each day after that it starts fine and always runs totally perfect I was advised it needed all 4 injectors replaced not totally convinced but agree to do them Injectors changed I was advised all is well and ready to collect Pay the bill take van home next day fault exactly the same Return to garage Fuel regular valve? Changed didn’t fix it Fuel rail changed Didn’t fix it High pressure fuel pump changed didn’t fix it Remove fuel looking for metal fragments none there Change fuel sender The van had now been there over 6 weeks I send a message in the morning to say I can’t take anymore I’m coming to get the van I was told someone would get straight back to me ,they didn’t Late afternoon the following day a call from service manager to say van is ready When asked he declined to say what the issue was but assured me there would be a engineers report when I collect the van Collect van once again I told them I was not happy to pay for unnecessary works but I was told I have to pay if I want to take the van away I told them I will pay but I’m paying under duress he scoffed at me and said I’m not under duress It’s now 10 days latter no report and no reply to email sent last week stating I’m not happy paving for the unnecessary work I’m happy to pay a reasonable cost for you to find the fault and repair it I would like a refund Any else had a similar issue
stevec176
I think the days of a decent mechanic looking at your engine and knowing from experience what the problem is is long gone. Its either plug the computer in and replace what ever it reports or they just keep replacing components until the problem goes away. What do garage's care as long as they get your money. Goog luck but don't hold your breath. Is there no ombudsman you can contact?
Keithl
Dawki, Your 2007 Sprinter is right on the change over date and could be either a late T1N or an early NCV3 chassis so which engine do you have, the in-line 5 cylinder or V6 3.0 Litre or? mikefitz
A sad tale on an all too common problem. Throwing parts at a problem at the customers expense . My guess in solving the starting issues would be to try at first, low cost procedures, fuel filter replace and glow/glow plug control relay, test/ replace. Any fuel injector/system testing is best carried out by an injection specialist rather than a main dealer. The dealer may offer some discount on the work carried out and although its upsetting that you are paying a considerable amount , you have an 'as new' fuel system rather than 15 year old parts. I would be inclined to pay the bill, recover the van, and get on with your life. Mike
buddy
If the garage is Mercedes approved it could be be worth a call to Mercedes-Benz Uk complaints dept. to see if they are interested in getting involved or if not are they a RAC / AA approved garage, if so , get in touch with them as they need to know when people are treated in this way. Derek Uzzell
My understanding (from Dawki's original posting on this thread and from his earlier forum postings) is that the garage that did the work referred to above, and that has serviced the motorhome in the past, is a Mercedes main agent for commercial vehicles. Mike That was my experience of Fiat (un) Professional, I was just paying for parts and fitting myself, but that was still adding up to a large bill, luckily I had Nick Fisher sort it out.
