robdav
I want to be able to easily disconnect my solar panel connection so I can switch it between the charge controller charging the leisure battery and a separate power pack. I have thought of using regular MC4 connectors but they are fiddly to disconnect and I don’t need the waterproofness as it’s all internal. Can anyone recommend some decent connectors that would achieve this? Thanks, Rob
pepe63xnotuse
Hi..Sorry, I've no current first hand experience (we used lots of multi-pin plugs-which took the uninsulated male/female crimps'- where I used to work,- but I have no idea what they would have been "called"...but they were quite crude, and needed shrink wrap to "smarten them up"). Maybe have a look at the RS components site (and search "connectors")? https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=connectors I would like to think that a decent auto-electrics outlet could advise?(and you'd then get to "feel" the quality of it). But I'd want to make sure it was something that was durable enough to be plugged & unplugged and not just something that is really meant to remain connected.... Keithl
First question, what max current and at what voltage? I use 3 pin XLR plugs for my 12 volt power supplies and they are rated for 10 Amps at 12 volts. Something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373119254871 which clearly states 10 A at 12 V. Den
I’ve used in the past the Tamiya plugs. Ideal for regular connecting reasonably smart and easy to fit.
Geeco
The caravan industry here use Anderson connectors as "the standard". I believe they are available in UK from AT leads & connectors in beautiful downtown Cannock, once the home of Britool hand tools. sales@atleadsandlooms.co.ukcheers,
robdav
I ended up going with Anderson connectors and they are ideal for this purpose. Many thanks for all the responses.
