Red Transit hi-top, 1989, aka "Hannibal."

(But not for much longer - any offers?)

Hi Tony

What are you getting to replace Hannibal?

Correction - I expect I'm wrong there as it sounds as though you are so fond of the old chariot he could never be "replaced". There are some really tasty vans on offer these days. I dare not even go to shows, though I'm immune for a while as we only just got our new van.

It's OK, we're not going to get all sentimental about it. He did a good job for a long time, but it's time for us to move on. We've got a legacy coming, which will probably be our only chance to upgrade this side of heaven (and I don't know if they have vans there!).

I'm an awkward so-and-so, with a long list of "must-haves" which narrows the field a lot. It'll be our main vehicle, so I want top keep to the same kind of size (preferably <5m, DEFINATELY <6m), but this time I also want 4 travel seats - which H doesn't have.

OH insists on a shower this time - don't know what was wrong with my invention of a cold shower-head on a bracket outside!

Turbo-diesel, cab air-con, some kind of heating, definitely a grill, pref an oven....

Oh, and I'd rather have a Ford, will put up with a Renault, but not a Sevel.

We've been looking lonmgingly at the Cavarno from Roy Wood Transits (http://www.horizons-unlimited.co.uk/cavarno2/index.html) but don't know if we'll be able to afford one new & they're rare as hen's teeth second hand.

So we'll see - the Lord will provide!!

Tony

PS wonder why my link didn't show as "live"?

Glad I asked Tony - I sort of guessed you would be looking for more of the same.

There is a firm in Keighley (I think) who do more or less 'bespoke' conversions of carefully selected two or three year old panel vans (or you can provide your own if it fits in with their set-up) and I was amazed at the apparent value for money. I say "apparent" because I have no more information than I'm giving you here - not because I have any suspicions.

If you are interested to learn more I will ask my friend who knows both name and precise location, and pass on the info. I couldn't consider one as I'm 6' 4", and even if I wasn't an awkward so-and-so like yourself, I can't stand up in most panel van conversions.

No probs to get the info if you would like it.

Regards

Just had a good look at the dream van Tony. It looks very well appointed and extremely versatile, and a 6' 10" by 5' 10" bed must be among the biggest around. Not cheap as you suggest, and by the time you have added a few of the "must haves" it will be even more painful on the wallet. Well worth it though if it's just what you want - and if you keep it until it's as old as Hannibal it won't owe you a penny.

Incidentally, I think your link failed to show up live because it wants a space at each end, and you gave it a bracket instead. I'll insert one below with all the variations to see if I'm right.

By all means find out and send me a PM.

You've reminded me of one other essential - I'm 6'1," so double bed and standing headroom must be sufficient!

Thanks

Tony

This is the one Tony - my friend has a photographic memory. I'll post it here in case anyone else is interested.

I know nothing at all about them so can offer no comment, but if it looks interesting you now have the contact.

Good hunting - I still love the look of your dream van though :-D :-D :-D

Dave
