hi all

I have used the search facility and the info got was from 2016 -2018 so I was after up to date info regarding what I need to get a better signal when on a campsite from the site wifi, IE. the site has wifi but only around the reception and i am miles away on pitch 200 at the bottom of the site!

I have looked on Motorhome wifi site as well for info, I thought there stuff was a tad expensive!

I only have my laptop and a Phone to connect

I do have a mifi device with a 3 payg which is great but I don't want to use it all the time.

Do these ariel type antenna boost the signal or just bridge it?

is there an antenna that can boost the signal?

thanks all stay safe and well in these bad times

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

I have an 'ALFA Tube-U' long range omni-directional antenna which has a USB plug to go directly into a laptop...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ALFA-TUBE-U-150Mbp-Outdoor-Connector/dp/B00OZQT9EI

Edit: (Just noticed the ALFA does not include the Antenna!)

and then a separate WiFi repeater/router which is rather tricky to set up but does then provide a 'Hot spot' within the MH for multiple devices to connect at the same time.

I don't use these often but they have been very effective every time I have needed to use them.

Keith.

I gave up the wifi challenge 2 yrs ago and rely on a 3 data package home and away and have internet connection where ever I stop.

I read somewhere that Vodaphone after cash back have a unlimited deal for £10 a month

I have a Motorhome Wifi iBoost which is pretty good as it has a router so all devices can use it and it all works off 12v. As said you can cobble something together yourself cheaper as long as your a bit techie.

I used to use the USB antennas for years but they are only good for one device that has a USB.

Mobile data hot spots and mifi units seem to be the way to go these days but I like to have both at hand. Always try with the wifi first and if that fails turn on the hotspot on my phone.

We have the 3 data package which is great but limited to 19gb abroad.

If we decide to use campsite wi fi then the aerial mentioned really does boost the signal.

We connect it to one laptop and then use the Connectify programme to set it up as a hotspot

Hmmm interesting, so this program makes the laptop a hotspot so you can get your phone to work wifi from your laptop? just checking i read that right?
