Ghana is a safe country and this man should have been detained and sent back there within a short period of being found.

On the contrary Dave. The UK promoted and obtained European agreements about who could be removed quickly without access to the normal appeal procedures. Successive governments possessed of those procedures find it convenient to blame anyone but themselves for their inadequate application of them and you've fallen for their obfuscation.

Did you read the whole article Dave? The current government is to be applauded for waking up to the fact that they could legislate better so as to be able remove illegal migrants more quickly in 2014. It's not just Tory governments who have been slow off the mark or failed to invest in effective inward and outward border controls. We were caught napping in the early 2000s and now the trouble is the number of illegal migrants grew to such levels that the government has an enormous task at a time resources are stretched.

You have no doubt read of cases where individuals escaped deportation by bringing legal proceedings and who many people would have wished to see the back of, including me. You don't hear of cases where they've tried to take advantage of the system and failed. You can't just rely on headline grabbing cases for the full picture.

I am reminded of our wager about the deprivation of citizenship and the government's plan to deport Shabir Ahmed. The latest news I can find on that is from July this year. Interestingly there is mention of an investigation into the lawyers that acted for him in relation to their conduct. There are no doubt lawyers whose conduct should come under scrutiny. I am not saying that lawyers are always blameless when it comes to using delaying and other tactics to frustrate the lawful actions taken by the government. You may have a legitimate beef about some that do. To castigate all lawyers and/or blame them all for the difficulties in removing people from the UK would be unwarranted in my view.

Anyway here is the article in case you haven't seen it.

Dave, Dave, I despair, you appear to know as little about the process by which legislation is drafted and passed by parliament or the limits within which the government can legislate due to its obligations under international treaties as I know about the workings of the internal combustion engine or how to upholster a pouffe. We have discussed Human Rights treaties, Refugee treaties and such like and none of what I've said previously sunk in.

RogerC - 2017-10-18 3:02 PMThis article might just shed some light on what is fuelling racial hatred in some areas:

I think it does too Roger. Would that some people could distinguish between these despicable people and the innocent. Adopting the same kind rhetoric that Islamist hate preachers use will get us nowhere. Good that the Judge mentioned in the article has called upon regulators to investigate cases where he and his colleagues have identified possible malpractice on the part of some lawyers. Dave P has a tendency to believe that Judges are almost invariably part of the problem when this Judge's actions are obviously part of the solution. Veronica
