Stranded in Spain

I do not see how any one was stranded in Spain, we were in Portugal and Spain for the past 5 months wild camping all the time, on about the 14 March we were wild camping with about 50 other vans ,at Roquetes del Mar the Police called round and said we could stay but advised that the borders were going to close and we should all rethink our positions, telling us to keep the 2 metre distance between others we decided that we would cut short our trip by a month and head home, this we did , we called in at the Aire at Nersac ,got a visit from the Gendarme who gave us a form that permitted further travel to the UK, we called in at the Aire at Wissant to find it closed and notices saying that a Government decree said all such facilities should close so we carried on to Sangate and wild camped there for 1 night catching the train on the 20 th which we had booked via the CCC a few days previous ,£106 , NO rip off there, there were plenty of choices for the train both for time and days,

Although the borders were in fact closed onward travel was permitted with the basic form from the Police, Hindsight shows that leaving Spain was the right decision as their hospitals are now overwhelmed and struggling to cope, So stranded no just make the right decisions it seems to me.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes the verb “strand” as follows:

1 : to run, drive, or cause to drift onto a strand : run aground

2 : to leave in a strange or an unfavorable place especially without funds or means to depart

3 : to leave (a base runner) on base at the end of an inning in baseball

Trevor originally posted here on 20 March and it was plain that he believed he was in a situation that merited the word’s 2nd definition.

By 23 March Trevor had left Spain and was making his way north through France and he subsequently made it back into the UK as you managed to do.

I can imagine a motorcaravanner becoming genuinely ‘stranded' in Spain (eg. if the motorhome were involved in an accident and its occupants injured) but let’s not quibble over semantics...

He’s still stranded to some extent as he hasn’t got a home to go to. You “vindiboy” may well have “come home” . “ htrevor” is still in flux, just in a different country.

Well the plot thickens ,if someone has made the decision to permanently live in a Motorhome they are never stranded are they ? their home is where they are surely may not be where he or she wants to be but that is how it is.Yes we still have a home in the UK but that is a decision we made over 20 years ago ie to retain our base, and spend long months travelling accepting what ever that throws at us , choices ?

That's pretty much my take on in..People make a choice, and then work with it.

In fairness to "htrevor" (the OP), they weren't making too much out of it, and as they'd already been travelling in Europe for a year and a half, they're obviously savvy enough to get by.

(It strikes me that much of the "..but what about Full-Timers?..." calls, seem to be coming for "ordinary" motorhome owners, who are just peeved that campsites are shut, and they're just using Full-timers as a hook to hang their argument on?.. ;-) )

Ah but that’s it really,it’s not his decision. He is being ordered to move on with sites closing.

Not entirely. We were about to sell our house and spend the summer in the van looking around the country. Good job we put it on hold as we would be going from pillar to post. There are others in the same position with no house but are not “full timers” so it’s a situation I have sympathy with.

Well there are some folks that just HAVE to be on a campsite, electric hook ups showers toilets washing up facilities etc etc well good for them , my van is fully equipped and we remain off site for months each to their own of course but sites are not for us so we can park anywhere where we feel safe and unobtrusive.
