ColAndDebs
Might be me but can’t figure out if up-plating my RIMOR (which at its current 3.5 tonne plate is not liable for LEZ charges in London) to above 3.5 tonnes, means it suddenly becomes liable for charges I’ve asked on the TFL site and had no response yet. webby1
It depends on whether the engine is Euro 4 5 or 6.............I thought if you put your reg into the TFL website it would give the information. Ah I see.......you haven't upplated as yet..........remember that the LEZ standards have recently been upgraded and I think you need Euro 6 if over 3500 Are you looking at campsites ?.........the Crystal Palace and Lee Valley site (one of them) are now within the LEZ
ColAndDebs
Yep we’re booked into the Crystal Palace site, hence needing to know if up plating will cost us the extra ((up to) £300 daily (as we won’t be going if so!)
webby1
As I say it depends on the age of your van or rather whether it is Euro 4 5 6 for emissions. Ours is 2009 upplated to 3850 but its only Euro 4 (don't ask me how you find out) so we cannot stay at Crystal Palace. I have seen various discussions from those with older vans about where to stay outside the zone and easily get into the centre.
StuartO
I went to the Crystal Palace Site years ago, long before the LEZ was imposed and the drive on the South Circular to get there was awful. And then our MH became subject to LEZ charges, which are seriously punitive. Is there any value in going to the small number of sites in outer Greater London? I’m amazed they continue to be viable. ColAndDebs
From what I have discovered it seems unless the vehicle uses ad blu (wonders why it is suddenly appearing in filling stations) it’s not Eu 6 ( mine apparently was one of the last to meet Eu5) - and if we plate up over 3.5 tons we will be liable to pay the charge - not sure if it’s £100 or £300 per day, either way it’s not worth it so I have cancelled the stay - they may have saved some particles in the air but they have lost a family spend over four days in the City, I’ll stay up North! webby1
Coming from the North we will use https://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/lee-valley-campsite-sewardstone bus into Walthamstow and then tube to centre. Its just outside the Zone using Junction 26 on the M25 I am sure there are other sites with similar journey into centre........................I do understand the decision about the pollution and particles and reluctantly accept the decision. Perhaps our 2 great motoerhome supporting clubs could have lobbied for some kind of one off visit...........one journey in and one out in a 12 month period at a flat rate of .................whatever. Not sure they did anything............................... Happy to hear otherwise
John52
I read somewhere that last year a 11 year old child in London died with the cause of death on her death certificate given as air pollution. So I see these restrictions as here to stay and likely to increase.
Derek Uzzell
The child’s death occurred in February 2013 when she was aged nine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-44612642 The coroner’s ruling was widely reported in December 2020 https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/16/girls-death-contributed-to-by-air-pollution-coroner-rules-in-landmark-case and there was a BBC News follow-up article a couple of months ago https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-56801794
webby1
That's why I said I accepted it had to be done..........Khan is still reviled by some but tighter restrictions were necessary. Perhaps to boost tourism there could have been allowances for an annual visit. By the way it's coming to a town near you Any other suggestions for campsites with easy access into the centre. London's emissions have been exceeding the legal limits, apart from any other reasons for tightening the restrictions Sadiq Khan is trying to comply with the law. Like Jeremy Corbyn, his policies are actually quite popular So the right wing media avoid discussing them, and go for character assassination instead. >:-)
