My 05 Adventguard habitation door has a broken bottom hinge :-( does anyone know of a possible source to get one?

I have tried to see if Ebay had any but no luck. I will try Elddis through a dealership ,I am expecting a silly price but what other options do I have? Thanks for any help.

Chas, you posted your reply to the wrong thread!

Unfortunately its not the same, mine only has 3 leaves its 100 mm o/a length.

The photo attached below is of one of the habitation-door hinges of a 2005 Compass Avantgarde motorhome.

The part looks (to me) like a 5-section Elbee aluminium hinge. This design has a notorious reputation for the hinge's knuckles to seize on to the steel pin that runs through them eventually resulting in the aluminium sections breaking.

The hinges can have 2, 3 or 5 sections and there are left-hand or right-hand versions. As should be evident from the O'Leary advert ColinM50 provided a link to above, there are also variations in the hinge's cross-section.

If it proves impossible to source the correct Elbee hinge, Mr William Neven may be able to help. These forum threads relate

(If chas's Avantgarde's door-hinge is not an Elbee product, a photo of the hinge will be needed.)

There is a chap who manufactures replacement hinges of the 3 and 5 piece type. I cannot remember his name but someone on here will.

Bill Neven, follow my link in the second post of this thread for contact details.

Keith.

Bill Neven does not advertise his repair/manufacture services for Elbee caravan/motorhome door hinges, but his email contact address is

billsunhinged59@outlook.com

An 'images' GOOGLE-search on that email address retrieves the following results

https://tinyurl.com/536s9d23

The 1st photo attached below shows the types of hinge Bill can provide.

The link Keithl gave above is to a July 2021 O&AL forum thread, so there's a reasonable chance Bill is still operating. This other 2021 link may also be of interest

The 2nd attached photo was taken from an advert for a 2005 Compass Avantgarde 200 and the habitation door hinges are definitely the elusive 5-section Elbee type. However, there are throwaway online comments that 3-section hinges may be used instead.

That's very informative, mine are 3 section hinges and the one I need is the one in the top right-hand corner of the photo. I have tried various places, places that also strip down salvage caravans ect , but no luck . I am in the process of removing the middle hinge to the bottom of the door, the one thats broken, and may try to cobble together the broken one to fit in the middle, if that does not work will see how things go without a middle hinge. Thanks for the help so far.

It looks like 5-section hinges may only have been used when a Compass/Elddis motorhome had a flyscreen that could be swung across the entrance to the habitation area. There’s an ancient online advert for a 5-section hinge that reads as follows:

Possible the last NEW one of these hinges left in the country.

Motor-home 5 section exterior door hinge for fly-screen doors

175mm long by 50mm wide

Aluminium with black plastic end caps

To suit left handed door (stand outside the motorhome... look at the door and whichever side the hinges are ... this is the hand you want)

Used on Elddis and Compass motorhomes

This Youtube video relating to a 2006 Elddis Autoquest 100 shows a flyscreen arrangement that hangs off the habitation door’s 5-section hinges

and a contemporary Elddis brochure indicates that a door flyscreen was standard for every Autoquest model at that point in time.
