How to unregister

It seems to me that in terms of travel style we are light years apart.

When I signed up I thought I could help with ideas and suggestions.

But I see the major concerns are how much milk you will be able to bring into Europe or the delays in the arrival of the ACSI card.

Chatterbox was a contentious site but (two members excluded) also a place for the exchange of ideas. Maybe different but respectful of each other.

Editorial choice that I respect, it is no longer the case and I wonder what sense my stay here has.

Question: I have not found the way to unregister from the forum and I ask the moderators how to do it.

Schengen or non-Schengen, happy travels to everybody.

Prior to the Out&AboutLive forums being transferred to the Invision Community platform in September 2022, the only way that a forum-member could 'unregister' (ie. have their forum account deleted) was to ask the forum Administrator to do this.

I've looked at the Invision Community website, and the advice given is

You can delete your account by logging in and going to your Account Settings page. There, you can click the “Deactivate Account” button and follow the steps to complete the process.

However, as a Deactivate Account button does not appear on my Account Settings page, I'm guessing that this user-capability was not provided when the O&AL forum was transferred, and - if you really want to 'unregister' - I'm pretty sure you will need to contact the Administrator.

There is a follow-on warning about this

If you are considering deleting your Invision Community account, please be aware that this action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Rather than 'unregister' now, I suggest you wait until the forum Administrator has decided how to address the concerns about the forum's structure that have been discussed recently - in particular what the purpose and future of the Chatterbox forum should be.

Since you like Spain so much, adiós.

You have me possibly confused with another . I like Spain and have travelled all down the coast line in the motorhome  but I've spent much more time and liked other countries  much more than Spain . Travel safe dear friend

Max,

Answering with my moderators hat on I cannot find any way to unregister a user, short of reporting them to the admins.

But as Derek has said, you have been here for nearly four years and have made many useful posts so why leave? I agree things have changed over the last few weeks but hopefully for the better in the long run.

Also this is a quiet time for UK MH'ers other than those who venture to mainland Europe, so maybe take a break from the forum for a few weeks/months then come back and see if you can offer any help in the future.

Keith.

Why don't you offer some advice?🤔

After all you do have some experience of being removed from forums😏

Because I don't know the answer and don't want to tell him wrong like you have done

Getting banned does not get you unregistered - Even I know that and I have never been banned.

Exactly why you need a forum thats not just for answering motorhome questions but is also a community with an off topic section which has now been removed with thread after thread deleted.

If you dont keep people involved and posting all through the year not just when people are off motorhoming it will die which seems to be the case here now. Dead as a doornail.

All very well Barry when the off topic chat is friendly but every post that has been removed degenerated into the same forum members trading insults or posting offensive or racist comments.

As I have said before keep it clean and follow Warners rules of posting and I give you my word posts will not be removed.

Insults, offensive or racist comments have always been moderated (although people have different ideas about what constitutes them)

But now whole threads are going, throwing the baby out with the bathwater

You might as well shut the forum down. Which seems to be what many members want actually, because they are embarrassed by their support on here for Johnson, Brexit etc.

Nailed it . If Barry didn't post up vulgar pornographic pics of members then maybe the rules might be relaxed a little . Best wishes

Keith thankfully shut down a thread that showed a member in a pornographic pose, I dont see how that has anything to do with "Johnson, Brexit etc" but Im sure you'll link it somehow . Keiths doing a great job

Verging on and most certainly offensive on a public forum!

(And apologies to Max for the thread going so far off topic but I hope it helps with his decision to stay with us for at least a while longer).

Which from what I  see is the idea same old questions answered with the same links over and over again by the same person.

There you go again -

Trying to bait other forum users - you just can't help yourself.

Sadly, Chatterbox is dying on its knees - and you can consider yourself instrumental in its downfall.

You've killed your own 'soap box' so to speak, with endless political postings and social criticisms [which on most occasions don't even elicit a reply] - you've simply driven the majority of members away.

It's Chatterbox - not a Political extremists platform.

I'm sorry, but it has to be said...

Look at Keiths reply as hes nailed it . Its not about what I personally find pornographic its wether Keith finds them pornographic given he acts as administrator for the forum providers to uphold the rules and decency .

Well the photographs didn't do anything for me, but if you find them pornographic I accept they are.  So thats something I have learned.

What I find most remarkable is the people who spent so long talking about 'Boris' and Brexit are now saying we can't discuss it because its political.

It feels as though everything has suddenly become political, including the very popular subject of motorhoming in the EU, so we can no longer talk freely about it.  If one poster strays over an undefined line the whole thread is gone.

Sorry I can't answer your question about how to unregister.

I don't think its possible on this or other forums.  Even banned members like pelmetman and Anthony are still here in all of their incarnations. Some say all commercial sites have a vested interest in keeping the membership numbers as high as possible to drive advertising revenue.  Whether thats the case here I don't know.  But in any case If all your posts were to disappear the rest of the threads wouldn't make sense.  So there are good reasons for not unregistering members.

Which means those who have posted things that embarrass them can only hope to get the site moderated to death or closed down.  Otherwise their embarrassing posts will never go away.

Our biggest issues in the UK are things that don't affect you so I can understand you feeling this site is no longer relevant to you.

I wouldn't blame you for going. But I hope you stay because I would miss your input.
