On board battery charger.

It is the  power distribution and habitation 12v fuse box unit with both the starter and leisure battery power (and charger 12v power) going to it ,   it may be marked NE184 or similar and made by Nordelecttronica ,  it is normally found fitted under habitation seating or in a wardrobe/cupboard. It supplies 12v power to the water pump, lights, fridge, step etc via its separate control panel which may be near/over the entrance door , the power distribution /fuse box also controls mains (when on hook up) and alternator (engine running)  charging of  leisure and starter batteries in most cases.  (The unit could also be a Sargent Electrical made item but it will work in a similar way)

What is the  problem you are having ?

I think you will find that the LED is a mains on signal and would expect it to remain on . . (is it possible that the hook up cable is incorrectly wired causing reverse polarity ? ).

Have a look at www.apuljackelectronics.co.uk  ,  their catalogue /  Nord Electtronica section  shows many chargers and PSU units which may help you identify what type you have fitted (if they have not been replaced with another make) .  They should also be able to help with any repairs or information about your equipment if needed.

If your equipment  shown is not the same as yours , check the Sargent section ,  as Swift changed to them around the time of your Motorhome year

Cheers,

Am having a problem in understanding if the on board battery charger is working.

Symptoms are the LED in the charger when switched on comes on then immediately goes out

is the correct?

Oggs, do you have a multimeter? If yes then measure the voltage of the battery directly at the terminals then turn on the charger. You should see a rise from around 12.5 or so Volts up to well over 13 Volts when the charger is working.

And you saying the LED for mains power implies Nord-Elettronica to me as I don't recall Sargent units having such an LED, just an illuminated red switch for the charger.
