Solar Panel connection

I want to use a solar panel to recharge my leisure battery when I am off Grid but I have to completely remove the passenger seat to access the battery terminals in order to attach the crocodile clips. Would it be feasible to attached insulated "tails" to the battery terminals, that protrude from below the seat, that I could easily connect to?

A portable solar panel I bought a good few years ago cam with a surface mount din/hella 12v socket for permanent positioning on the 'van connected to the battery, and a din/hella 12v  plug connected to the wiring from the solar regulator on the panel.

It worked well over a number of 'vans.

As an example (not necessarily a recommendation for purchase - similar items are widely available)

  • Keithl changed the title to Solar Panel connection

The above extension has the very important fuse. It would need a SAE connector for the solar  cable. I assume there is a solar controller between panel and cable that connects to the battery. Avoid crocodile clips, they make a poor connection and could easily cause a short.
