EGR Valve issues

Recommended Posts

We have a swift motorhome, had the engine management light come on, took it back to the dealer they said it's the EGR valve, only had it a year, we've put 1,500 mikes since we've had it just looking for advice how to clear it, have used redex systems cleaner but still light on.

Yes I mean EDR valve sorry peeps

Never heard of an EDR valve, any ideas where it is fitted?

And what is the base vehicle of your MH, including engine size and year please?

As has been suggested above, it's much more likely that your garage was referring to an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve than an EDR valve.

There is a LOT of on-line discussion about EGR problems relating to Fiat Ducato motors, so it would be helpful if you could provide details of your Swift motorhome (exact model and its age) and (even more important) say which motor it has.

This 2010 forum discussion is just one of many.

EGR valves are notorious for getting gummed up - and it's not exclusive to Fiat.

You could try the cleaning method, or the £10 blanking plate fix [works sometimes] but replacement is the best option in the long run.

You do not say whether this has caused your Ducato to go into limp mode as a consequence of the EML coming on, or any fault code logged.

Check the small hoses coming from the EGR solenoid, and if it's buzzing - it's also worth checking the throttle body is functioning properly too.

My old Mondeo used to go through an EGR valve around every 40k so as it died at 237k I got through quite a few!

Cleaning or blanking never worked - unfortunately.

As Derek says - we need some more information.
