The one thing I just can't get my head around is this desire to discuss one forum on several others. So Motorhomefun has decided to charge for use, so what? Its your choice as an individual to subscribe and continue or not subscribe and therefore not continue. Why do we continually seem to need to pour ridicule and scorn on those sites that charge? Its surely a personal choice as to whether you subscribe or not. I choose not to pay for SKY TV and instead use Freesat and Freeview, Do I go onto satellite TV forums and deride SKY? Certainly not! For one thing I don't have the spare time in my life to waste pointing my finger at others.

D.

I think one of the reasons, is a feeling of being cheated in someway because its the members contributions to the forum that makes it what it is. Apart from watching, Sky, Freeview or whatever there is no input on your part.

With respect to on line forums then there is a cost to be paid and the person who set it up and developed it should be able to recover that cost either with ads or if it's a hobby then donations or both.

However IMO if it's by subs then it's a business, and maybe some feel that they have been used.

In answer to scorn and ridicule on pay sites I think you will find a certain faction within MH Fun was guilty of dishing this out in the past when Fun was a free forum. Now Fun has had a re-think, done a U turn and become a pay site itself, it is understandably seen by some as just a tad hypocritical.

You don't 'rib' and 'poke' about pay site forums whilst trumpeting the benefits of your own wonderful free forum......only to later change direction and go the same way as those you have previously been deriding. If that isn't eating humble pie, then I don't know what is.

You are right about personal choice which explains why some people decided not to pay and went off to other forums. There are plenty of free forums around on a huge variety of subjects all freely open for anyone and everyone to post.

I had recently joined MF (in the past 3 weeks) no mention of it imminently becoming a subscription site then or I would not have joined.  IMO these sites should be happy with the revenue they gain from advertising which should increase in proportion with the number of members; surely more members if free, fewer if paid for?

To clarify, I will not be subscribing.

Hello,

I have not subscribed there yet, but I probably will, I thought it might die but it is looking as busy as ever. Any post you made is still there and can be read by anyone for free so why are you feeling used. Its the making of new posts that he is charging you for 8-)

Second post and you are slagging people off already!!

I was going to welcome you, but I think I'll hold back awhile.

Dave

LOL. Ignore 'him/her' Dave. (lol) (lol)

It's only one of the Fun 'trolls' flying under two flags that doesn't have the courage of their convictions to use their ORIGINAL id name.

I had 'em even when I was on Fun.

They just make some sneering comment.....then disappear never to make another post (or at least not under the same id name!).

Why pay £15 to talk rubbish when you can do it here for free.

Our resident Angry Lefty LOSER In Chief has nothing better to spend his money on :D .......

Hi guys ... miss me? (lol)

I've just been pointed to this thread and what an interesting read it has been ... all those having a go a MH Fun have IMV been proven wrong as it is thriving, it's more than just a forum, much, much, much, more ... hence why that's where I am very active now (as Minxy Girl) and where many MMM forumites have joined too.

I left this forum for the OTT aggressive and at times downright threatening posts, I wasn't willing to accept the abuse either to me or others even though it meant I couldn't then help those good members on here who I would happily have done otherwise. Whether this site has improved on that I don't know as I'm quite happy on MH Fun and don't have the time to split between 2 forums.

So hi to those who remember me and I hope you are keeping well and safe.

Maybe but you cant go on MH Fun and call Boris Johnson a moron or that Brexit was the worst idea since Jacob Rees Mogg suggested that it was a good idea to employ the five year old children of the poor to become chimney sweeps again. From what I gather you will be hung, drawn and quartered for that. You can of course say that on here. (lol)

As far as the Out&AboutLive forums are concerned, Mel, there has been minimal development software-wise since you left 4 years ago and, realistically, that’s likely to continue to be the case for the foreseeable future.

The Motorhome Matters forum (in my opinion) is probably still the best place for a rapid informed response to a technical motorhome-related enquiry, but I’m not sure that’s going to continue much longer as the ‘core’ of expertise (never that large) is contracting noticeably..

The O&AL forums have 2 active ‘volunteer’ moderators - a hang-over from when the forums were brought to their knees by spamming in 2016 - but the loathsome Chatterbox forum is a no-go area for moderation and the half dozen or so Chatterbox ‘specialists’ who dominate it are largely left to their own demonic devices. Occasionally one of them gets a yellow-card heave ho from the Administrator for extreme outrageousness but this doesn’t have any real long-term effect. I’ve encouraged the forum Administrator several times to remove the Chatterbox forum completely. Its original purpose has been degraded and it’s just become a pseudo-political free-for-all that Freud could have written a book about. But so far my entreaties have fallen on deaf ears.

Happy days...

That proposal would have my support too. Maybe if more people supported the idea it might help persuade the administartors as Chatterbox no longer adds anything of value to this forum?

A forum is supposed to be a place foir the interchange of ideas not a soap box for a minority of vociferous politically motivated paranoid odd balls so the removal of the right to free insult and the return yo a Motorhome forum would be a distinct improvement.

The comical thing with MHF was Mein Fuhrer/ Jim's attitude to Brexit, anything pro was allowed, anything anti and you'd get sent to Coventry as "your not allowed to discuss politics", despite the fact politics was going to have a major impact on our motorhoming lives. It's been quite amusing dipping back in to see the reaction as things unfold, particularly as all those things that were project fear - pet passports and 90 days, became project reality.

I notice that Jim's latest venture is to setup a Motorhome Consumers Association, which would seem quite a worthwhile scheme if the committee wasn't all the MHF subscribers who are happy to agree with Jim.
