I wonder when they're going to make a documentary about Remoaners & Bullet type folk? :-S ........

They could call them the "Windbag generation" :D .........

If only you viewed the linked programme you'd not only be informed but also able to contribute some sensible comments. *-)

Sounds like a very bitter young man that Mr Olusoga ... Personally I cant take those who write for The Guardian seriously ... I see he hasn't wrote a book on the forgotten white slavery issue yet ... He seems to just concentrate on black/Asian issues which really isnt very inclusive for a historian type like him ... Lovely

Prof David Olusoga OBE is one of UK's foremost historians. When you've actually viewed the documentary you might be able to form a more adult and informed opinion.....until then, just more of your usual ugliness from a bitter twisted mindset.

So he mentions white slavery in the documentary then ??? ... Its not just all one colour specific ... My mentioning white slavery now in your view is "ugliness from a bitter twisted mindset" ... Wow ... Really Wow

I have no interest in what a writer for The Guardian/Observer/New Statesmen has to say about his one sided view ... I prefer a much more balanced view but you of course being the messenger of hate have tunnel hate vision and love the fella , your never ending Boris threads prove your total tunnel vision hatred ... Carry on

The Home Office has been accused of being reckless and of failing in their legal duty to counter racial discrimination – by a Home Office commissioned review into the Windrush scandal.

“The department failed to monitor, or effectively evaluate, the effectiveness and impact of compliant environment measures.”

The review adds: “This appears particularly reckless considering the significant warnings that the Department was given about their potential consequences.”

The draft review also contains numerous recommendations including the suggestion that all Home Office staff need to be educated in the country’s colonial past.

“Ministers/Department should admit that it was wrong and provide an unqualified apology…the sincerity of this apology will be judged by how far the Department demonstrates contrition…”.

The Windrush 'lessons learned' review now been ordered for publication by the HoC. The Home Office showed “ignorance and thoughtlessness” on the issue of race. The long-awaited review comes after some of those who came to the UK from Commonwealth countries were wrongly told they were in Britain illegally.

There was a “profound institutional failure” which turned thousands of people’s lives upside down, it said.

Warnings about the “hostile environment” policy were “not heeded”, the review concludes.

The 275-page report says the “root cause“ of the scandal can be traced back to legislation of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, some of which had “racial motivations”.

“Operational and organisational failings” at the Home Office had a “causative impact” on the “detrimental” way Windrush migrants were treated.

They were “caught up in measures designed for people who have no right to be in the UK”.

Wendy Williams who conducted the review also found:

1) The Home Office was fragmented and decision-making was "siloed"

2) A target-dominated work environment within visas and immigration enforcement sections

3) A lack of empathy in some cases along with dehumanising jargon and cliches

4) Some senior civil servants and former ministers showed ignorance, lack of understanding and acceptance of the full extent of the injustice

5) Changes to legal aid contributed to the scandal

6) A history of prejudice towards black people and wider society also a factor
