rayc
Just out of interest does this happen at other border crossings into the EU?
stevec176
Don't think that until motorhomes and caravans are crossing borders again we'll really know. Maybe its just a case that at the moment they have the time to be bloody minded. I'm not going any time soon so lots of time for things to change many times. I really meant lorry drivers who are entering the EU from overland routes?
Derek Uzzell
In my posting of 12 January 2021 8:45 AM above I mentioned confiscation of ‘personal’ food at the Spain/Gibraltar border. This 4 January 2021 article refers https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/01/04/new-restrictions-on-transport-of-food-from-gibraltar-to-spain/ A warning of this restriction was given in this 9 November 2020 Gibraltar Chronicle article https://www.chronicle.gi/no-deal-brexit-would-mean-new-food-rules-at-border/ TeamRienza - 2021-01-12 12:45 PM Interesting then that the BBC are carrying the same confiscation of sandwich story, I assume this puts the bbc who keep flaunting their ‘fact checking’ credentials on the same level as the Mail. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55622331 The BBC link shows a wheelie-bin overflowing with confiscated food products and Faisal Islam’s Twitter comments may be worth reading https://tinyurl.com/y4w5k56s As to whether this is happening at other ports, this 4-days-old Trans:INFO article https://trans.info/en/food-items-confiscated-from-drivers-arriving-in-the-netherlands-from-the-uk-216769 said It also appears that some customs officials in France are applying the rules in a similar manner. On the same day the Dutch customs authority made the post above, a lorry driver on a trucking Facebook group jokingly asked whether someone had had their cheese and ham sandwiches confiscated yet. The post quickly attracted a few laughs, but then one trucker admitted that he had indeed had dairy products and two meals taken from him in France much to the shock of a few group members. When asked whether he was joking, the driver confirmed that he was serious. (Apparently this was at Calais.)
