https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

And yet more statistics , deaths per mil......which puts us fourth.

Does it really matter what order countries are?

Yes as it is a clear indication of how well a country has managed a pandemic in protecting its citizens.

Which is probably quite a good indication as to how much it cares for its citizens, including the ones in care homes who are no longer "economically productive".

Oh. I see ..so as the UK is far advanced with number of vaccine doses administered compared to the EU that means the EU don't care as much for their citizens as the UK cares for its own.

No it means that as most EU countries didn't let the virus run rampant through its communities then it is not so reliant on vaccinating its population to control it.

Oh yes it did, try explaining that to Italy France and Spain that the virus wasn't really rampant in their country so they don't need much vaccine.

Do your analogy doesn't hold up to scrutiny , the EU care less for their citizens.

You appear to have answered your own question on another thread

"There is a different between the countries that make up europe and the useless pratts in Brussels.

Is it not so that EU citizens complain about Brussels."

The secret covid deaths......

The Guardian: Nearly half with cancer symptoms in the UK did not see GP in first wave of pandemic.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/feb/25/nearly-half-with-cancer-symptoms-in-the-uk-did-not-see-gp-in-first-wave-of-pandemic

There's no mention of any "secret covid deaths" in that report.

We currently have 135,613 registered covid deaths the fifth highest in the world which is shameful.

Not sure it’s any more or less shameful than any other countries deaths. It’s certainly regrettable and possibly a lot of them preventable if people bothered having a more healthy diet.

My point about cancer symptoms being missed or treatment delayed could well mean a lot more deaths not due to CV-19 but because of it.

In fact i thought because i have mild asthma i was more at risk but...

Asthma is a complex condition, often caused by the immune system responding inappropriately to various triggers. This results in the airways narrowing, the lungs becoming inflamed and mucus building up. Asthma symptoms (shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing) can be triggered by many things, including pollen and germs.

Respiratory viruses, such as influenza, often cause more severe disease in asthmatics and can cause severe asthma attacks. And the corticosteroid inhalers that many asthmatics use are known to worsen certain illnesses, including the flu, which is why asthmatics are advised to get a flu jab each year.

However, some studies have found that certain elements of the immune response to asthma may protect asthmatics from severe COVID. Asthmatics produce lots of immune-signalling molecules, such as interleukins. Some of these interleukins, such as IL-4, can dampen inflammation and are thought to reduce the damage caused by coronavirus infection.

In addition, eosinophils (a type of white blood cell), which are thought to contribute to the development and worsening of asthma, might counteract severe COVID. Studies have shown that patients admitted to hospital with COVID have reduced numbers of circulating eosinophils. Eosinophils have also been shown to play an antiviral role in other respiratory infections. Asthmatics, who often have large numbers of eosinophils infiltrating their lungs, may have an extra layer of protection against COVID

...amazing how it always comes back to your immune system.

Not sure it’s any more or less shameful than any other countries deaths.

More.....that much should go without saying. Look at the demographics of the five worst countries with the highest number of covid deaths; India pop. 1,36 billion, USA pop. 328 million, Brazil pop. 211 million, Mexico pop 127.6 pop, UK pop. 66.6 million.

So by comparison to the other four we have a tiny miniscule population and we are an island nation.

It’s certainly regrettable and possibly a lot of them preventable if people bothered having a more healthy diet.

The number of fatalities would have been considerably less had Johnson acted more swiftly instead of dithering over a half hearted lockdown. My BIL's younger brother had a 'healthy diet'.....he died less than a week after being admitted to hospital with covid. A relative who tested positive with covid, overweight, he survived which blows your 'healthy diet' stuff apart.

My point about cancer symptoms being missed or treatment delayed could well mean a lot more deaths not due to CV-19 but because of it.

That doesn't lessen the seriousness of our Covid fatalities, simply diverts attention away from it.

Can someone tell me if this 135,000 deaths is on top of the normal expected 530,000 ish in the last 12 months.?.

Brian B.

According to the Economist we have had 160 extra deaths per 100k :-| ..........

https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/coronavirus-excess-deaths-tracker

Which shows that counting everyone who died "WITH" COVID is a distortion of the true COVID death rate (^) ........

I can see why the government are prepared to allow the distortion of the truth to go unchallenged ;-) ........

As it prolly helps folk change their habits and behave more responsibly :-> .........

Even though it gives the HATERS a tool to bash Boris with *-) .........

I suspect once the Pandemic is over, the truth will out ...........

This item (from early Jan) explains things a little. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55631693

..and it puts the excess death figure at 85,000 (up to last Nov)

Remember when it was first voiced that we may hit 20,000 deaths, and everyone was shocked?... :-S

You can have a healthy diet but still have poor anti inflammatory gut bacteria. Covid patients die because their immune system is either overrun or can’t cope. I take it you don’t know the composition of his gut bacteria so saying someone looks fit or fine doesn’t cut it. The reason people survive is because their immune system works or gets stimulated.

Cancer symptoms being missed or treatment delayed is absolutely equal to patients with covid. You want to tell a cancer patient his disease isn’t as serious as CV19?

From your link PopUp ;-) ........

"The data is only available until November - so the impact of deaths in December have not yet been taken into account - but it shows the death rate at that stage was at its highest in England since 2008."

Seems to me there's more than a little BBC Lefty spin going on :-| .........

Seeing as the data is only available up to November and that only states our death rate is the highest since 2000's.......When Labour was in power >:-) ..........

Slight update on the above-

It appears from the following link that some are now putting the excess death figure at over 100,000 ?

https://www.theactuary.com/2021/02/17/uks-excess-deaths-pass-100000

Although, as the government (us) funded BBC is dimissed by some as being a bunch of spinning "lefties" - The likes of the Institue and Faculty of Actuaries will probably just be written off as a bunch of lazy, university educated communists..??
