And there goes another one who has no interest in ebikes and just likes to stick his nose in and stir the pot.

Why are you glad that he said it? What purpose does it serve apart from feeding your petty little feud with Judge?

And do you ever make a post regarding motorhomes? Your sole purpose on here is to sneak out of Chatterbox occasionally to spread a bit of bile.

Now, please, do everyone a favour and leave this thread to those who actually want to discuss ebikes and not those whose only purpose is to foment argument.

I'm not sure how I can complain about your habit of entering threads purely to disrupt them without mentioning you or being personal. As in many other cases you have nothing to add to the gist of the thread and do it purely to satisfy some petty grievance.

Please, stop trying to cause strife and if you have nothing sensible to say don't stir the pot just for the sake of it. It's unedifying and simply shows that your main interest in this section is trolling.

..That's somewhat unfair HE, as Antony does also appear to enjoy more than his fair share of fishing.... ;-)

And that appears to be his sole contribution to Motorhome Matters.

Sole? Geddit! ;-)

He will now do what he specialises in and try to string this out for as long as possible. *-)

Now you mention it I do enjoy fishing ... Throw in the smallest bit of bait ... Wait only for a short time ... Bingo you get a big fat fish every time without fail ... Most times it's easy to land em , unhook em and a swift bang on the head and in the bucket with the rest ... Very satisfying

Poor soles ... Get it ??

And he boasts about deliberately entering a thread to bait people and stir up a bit of dissent.

I think that most of us have the measure of Anthony1969 and we all know why Chatterbox is a desert.

Having helped to ruin that, he now wants to use the same tactics in this section. It's very sad.

Sophie, have you actually phoned your insurance company. I thought that I was covered as my bikes do not have to be registered for the road and as you say are EPAC, but it seems that the electrical assistance make the difference.

May be worth a phone call just to be sure

Regards Mike

No but a good point and I certainly will before we use them next Mike. My own view, but only an opinion, is that e-bikes are specifically defined, which I think would take them out of the "motorised" category. In view of the apparent uncertainty, perhaps it's time Insurance Companies specifically referred to e-bikes in their policies to make things clearer.

Regards

I don't see a person using an Ebike as 'a cyclist'. Surely a cyclist is one who cycles. Sitting on a cycle being propelled along independently is not "cycling".

If a machine be it a cycle or a wheelbarrow is powered by ANY means even solar it is not a cycle but an object (regardless of numbers of wheels) that is propelled by an outside source.

A bicycle just happens to be named a cycle because when it was designed that's what its ONLY use was.

EAPC= Electrical Assisted Pedal CYCLE

What makes me laugh with the knockers they are hardly ever cyclists and first choice for them is a car!

And yet another perfectly good thread hits the rocks...... Some really do need to get a life!lol

I have a soft spot for Will so here goes: we are not talking about mopeds Will, they are not twist and go and the whole point of this thread was to warn those that have throttle bikes to be aware of the consequences of riding in Spain?

The bikes some of us on here ride (no throttle because decent bikes don't need them) have a torque sensor that measures the pressure or strength of your input, then depending of what level of assist you dial in it "assist" you. This most useful when hill climbing or carrying loads. You're still getting aerobic exercise and when I come back from a ride I feel like I have had a work out..it would be pretty pointless otherwise.

(lol)

Just a quickie Judge .. If your having a dig at me you'll find I've probably done more cycling than most on here and my main source of transport other than for work are my legs , we walk everywhere basically .

It's free transport init ?

Well I don,t know what to believe about electric bikes beinga problem in Spain and Portugal,I recenttly bought a used one so am an interested party and intend taking it with us when we come to Spain and Portugal,I will not be able to get a conformity certificate because as I said it is a used bike and several years old, I have asked the question  on another forum about the stated fines and am being told that it is absolute rubbish as people in Benidorm, etc and Portugal are using electric bikes all over with no problem, one poster even said he stopped and asked a policeman directions whilst he was on an electric bike and had no problem,so is this another gassing thread, should I be bothered or not,I even asked that if I rode said bike without the battery in situ would that still make it an electric bike,so far no replies on that one.

I have looked at the websites of some Spanish e-bike suppliers and they repeat the same thing.

If the power is more than 0.25kW and if the power does not reduce with speed up to a max of 25kmph and stops if you stop pedalling or brake, or if they can be driven using the accelerator only then they are low powered motorbicycles and must be registered. You need a driving licence and insurance and must wear a helmet.

There is no ambiguity. The police might turn a blind eye, but then one day they might not.

Re: the argument over whether E-bikes can be described as 'proper' cycles or not - can't personally see how it matters one jot. Fortunately I am still healthy enough to ride a conventional road bike - but if the time comes when to get out and do longer distances an E-bike is necessary then I am sure I will be grateful that that technology is available. Just as now I am happy that lightweight frames and components and 20 speed gearing helps me climb hills. Whats the alternative - not get out on the bike at all in case some purist is critical ? Must admit Judge's bike looks fantastic, but if I am getting one will look for the model that it was claimed Fabian Cancellara won Paris Roubaix on in 2010 !

....the specific conformity you need on your CoC to qualify as an EPAC, allowing your bike to be treated as a bicycle in law, rather than a moped, is EN 15194 (as per the highlighted CoC attached).

The EN61000-x- xx conformity on your certificate are simply for Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and don't define the bike as an EPAC.

...as far as mine is concerned, a CoC applicable to the model (and contained in the "digital" manual, as above, but also supplied as printed sheet in several languages).

The physical bike does, however, have both serial number and EN15194 plates fitted to the underside of the frame.

What does a CoC look like? I have seen many variations from different companies. Do Spanish police have a data base of all the different ones?

I suppose they look like this:-

Each manufacturer if any good will have their own version, But EN15194 is the european standard probably in back of handbook that comes with bike. you would have to check out one above as it looks earlier. tried googling and its a powerbike? At least you know its been tested for electrical safety! The important bit is a the CE mark on the bike. If is has an independent throttle it wont comply for use in Europe

I find it bizarre that people don't recognise the problem here. Would they buy a fake hairdryer or home appliance without a CE mark to use. Likewise will they charge lithium battery in home and van that have not been CE tested and approved...it really is mind boggling! (lol) 30-60K + on a van and peanuts on a bike :D

Oh I see, so bikes should have a number stamped/plated on them somewhere then....

(..I was just wondering what was stopping folk with "none conforming" bikes from just downloading and printing off certificates from the internet and then adding the relevant brand/model/name stickers to their bikes.. (lol) )

Oops! sorry, I crossed your post Eddie.
