Melted roof

Recommended Posts

Hi, my local Ford dealer has melted the roof/roof lights, and possibly solar panel on my Benimar. (They’ve accepted liability). It was parked under roof heaters! It has been assessed by an approved workshop as needing full replacement. Even the ceiling is bowed and buckled. It has been described as “challenging “!! Please does anyone know of competent repairers in the Kent or surrounding area that could take this on that I can suggest to them?

Many thanks

Hi, just to update you on the roof saga.

Marquis won’t do it (the importers), they doubted it would be waterproof if done.

Motorhomebumpers say they can’t,

West , despite chasing haven’t come back to me, but I think I know what the answer is!

The two main specialists recommended by the C&C Club, won’t deal with imported vans Post-Brexit.

Lots of others say no. It is now in the hands of the Ford dealers insurers. I will speak with again Thursday.
We are in limbo.
A cautionary tale - watch where they park your vehicle!

It rather sounds like your Benimar could be written off then!

Start preparing yourself by looking at prices and availability of as near the same model as you can find incase you have to stand your ground with the insurers.

Out of curiosity what year was your MH?

Keith.

Make sure you only look at Motorhomes from a reputable company, they are normally more expensive than Jo bloggs Motorhomes.
make a list of all your add ins including the solar panel etc.

when the insurance come back to you have all the paperwork with availability and prices.

don’t give them a second to think about it and then they will know you your not a pushover.
my wife worked for a large insurance company and it’s amazing the difference it can make.

when my PVC was hit in the side by a drunk driver I got the estimate instantly and told them where I wanted it to go and they agreed.

good luck and I’m sure it can be resolved quickly

Not so far, only all the places that say it’s irreparable. Saw the Ford service manager yesterday and it looks like  it’s a right-off (in his experience) but “it’s up their insurers.”
the reason the heaters melted it - it was left  up high on ramps overnight when the frost settting kicked in. Only found out yesterday.

Just waiting for the money - due next week.

We have paid a deposit on a 2020 Tessoro T481 which we are collecting 1st week in May.

Thanks for the help and advice guys. Just want to get back touring!

Goldi is right - the thickness of our roof saved their workshop!
