Doigy
Last August I was rear-ended by a French truck whilst stationary at red traffic lights in a small French town. Insurance forms completed with diagrams etc clearly showing what happened. I have a letter from my insurer (AXA) stating no fault on my part. As of today, I'm still waiting for the claim to be settled over seven months later. The reason given by the third party (French) is that I did not provide Green Card details. Have I been negligent/naive in not having one? It is causing massive knock-on effects for renewal of car insurance as there is still an outstanding claim and therefore NCB has to be zero. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
Keithl
According to the gov.uk website you do not need a green card for travel in the EU so you need to educate them accordingly... https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/driving-abroad
onecal
Hi As Keithl mentions above you really should not need one within the EU if your insurance covers you for such travel. In case of an accident it still is good to have one as proof of travel cover in case of an accident when abroad. . https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/driving-abroad Are you sure the truck driver is fully insured? . Your insurance should have no problem printing you out a green card or indeed e mailing one for you to print out and send it o to the relevant authorities that may be requesting same Yes a green card is good to have if you are involved ij an accident and is easily provided by your insurer, once your insurance is valid for travel abroad within the E.U Why not ask AXA to send you on one ? and to the relevant authorities dealing with the case your full insurance documentation that you are covered to drive abroad at the time of the said accident . Derek Uzzell
This link may be of interest https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1997761 Comfort Insurance provides the following advice https://www.comfort-insurance.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/continental_travel.pdf When a Comfort Insurance client actually NEEDS a Green Card, a £25 charge is levied. Presumably, if a client insisted that a Green Card be provided even though travel would only be within the EU, where having a Green Card is unnecessary for UK drivers, the same £25 fee would be charged. Doigy
Thank you Keithl, onecal and Derek. It seems that I'm not a total div and would appear to be OK with regard to the claim. It looks like this is going to drag on and on. Ombudsman next stop I fear. Whatever happened to settling a no-fault claim promptly?

On my recent renewal with Comfort they issued a Green Card at no cost with the insurance certificate etc. Perhaps they have changed their policy regarding issuing them and hidden the cost in with the premium? onecal
Hi "Doigy" But you are dealing with AXA insurance . I would re contact AXA first as I have advised , to avoid any misunderstandings Regards
Doigy
Thanks One Cal, I phoned them (AXA) 10 days ago because there has been a deafening silence on their part. That's when I got the info about the Green Card. I have since written to them with my concerns and laying out again all the facts as I see them. What I don't get is that I've paid them their premium, made a legitimate claim (No Fault) and yet I'm still waiting for reimbursement. It shouldn't matter that they are in dispute with the third party. I have provided a European Accident Statement (albeit in French) and I have an email from them stating that it is a No Fault claim. I am totally fed up with the whole process now that I'm aware that a Green Card was not required.

The Comfort Insurance link I provided earlier advises Other Green Card countries: Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey If you intend to visit any of these countries, contact us to request a Green Card and Continental Use pack. You will need to advise us of the exact dates of the planned visit, and the duration should not exceed 120 days in any one year. An administration charge will be made. This link is to Comfort Insurance's Terms of Business and shows a £25 fee for "Issue of Green Card". https://www.comfort-insurance.co.uk/terms-of-business It's possible, in your case, that the fee did not apply, or was waived, or (as you've suggested) might have been included within the overall premium. Comfort should be able to tell you what their past policy was and present policy is.
