Honda takes back control

Honda reckon its not because of Brexit but analysts on the news today are saying its played a significant part. When you think about it, Honda will still want to sell Hondas in the UK so why pi$$ of half the population by basically saying because of your actions we are off?

There is some serious blame shifting going on right now on the forums, in the media right through to government. Ive seen this happen before in corporate business where people spend more time shifting blame than actually doing work and we have not even left yet.

Perhaps once we've left we should start charging 100% tariffs on all vehicles not built here >:-) .........

All you Brexiteers need to watch this clip. This is how you are now coming across.

(lol)

2016. Motor Industry warns Brexit will wreck the motor industry.

2019 Motor industry falling apart

2020 ?

Face it, even the ERG's own pet economists Patrick Minford and the "Economist for Brexit" have said that manufacturing, automotive and farming are toast and that we will all have to become bankers, designers or marketeers as its collateral damage in the name of BREXIT!

Being in denial just makes you look like the bloke in the video above. Stupid. You will take ownership of any good things that come out of Brexit (if there are any) so man up and start owning the bad stuff thats happening and will happen as a result,

Oh...... I see Brexit caused the Global downturn in the Automotive industry? *-) ..........

I see you've picked up a new buzzword you've been parroting the past few days. Very impressive. Maybe you hope to baffle some with this new found buzzword but whilst there has been a downturn overall in the automotive industry, the biggest slump has been in the US rather than Europe (see pdf) and Global auto sales increase by about 1%-2% in 2019 and 2020 are consistent with projections of GDP growth just below 2% in Europe and North America.

Trade tariffs, escalating trade wars, and a disruptive Brexit are also listed as the three contributing factors putting the industry at risk so to claim Brexit had no bearing at all on factory closures or relocations out of UK is as naive as pretending Brexit ever existed at all.....though many undoubtedly wish it didn't.

https://tinyurl.com/y3lpprgc

Over Nissan you tried blaming the fall in diesel sales, but you can't use that excuse with Honda as 94% of vehicles produced at Swindon are petrol. The Yen is fairly strong on the market plus Japan, like Singapore, recently signed FTA's with EU. Seeing a common theme here yet? Business are moving to countries they have sensible trading deals and agreements with which Brexit uncertainty put at grave risk. Even arch Brexiteer Dyson who said, "Brexit will be good for Britain", fled to Singapore to build his electric car. Doesn't seem like he had much confidence with building in UK does it? Easy to see why.

Now whilst Honda are understandably trying to play down the 'Brexit effect' by not mentioning it, it's worth looking at the strong warnings they gave three years ago saying that "Brexit could result in the country's firms moving their European head offices out of Britain."

The strongly worded report from Japan's foreign ministry says the firms might want to move "if EU laws cease to be applicable in the UK".

Japanese firms employ an estimated 140,000 workers in the UK, with Nomura bank, manufacturing giant Hitachi and carmakers Honda, Nissan and Toyota all having major bases in the country. The manufacturers want tariff-free access to the EU's single market as a starting point, as well as the freedom to move workers between plants.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37270372

Honda will be completely gone in less than two years. How many of those 3,500 employees have mortgages to pay i've no idea but they face selling up or losing their home. Some cases will undoubtedly be both husband and wife losing their jobs even other family members.

How much longer Nissan or Toyota will hang around is anyone guess but the probability is they will follow Honda.

I guess we'll have to wait and see wont we ;-) .............

No we're already seeing how much of the country you've wrecked throwing thousands of people out of work and destroying what bit of industry we had left without 'sitting around and waiting' for you to wreak more destruction.

It's not just 3,500 jobs at Honda that have gone...there will be many more who will lose business as a result.

I'm glad we're not as dependent on the automotive industry as Germany is B-) ..........

You need to pull your head out of your backside for once as your silly Germanophobia has become a nonsensical obsession. First you need to learn more about the German psyche and second about their Mittelstand industries. Financial loss at most big firms would not result in a big economic crisis in Germany. As a key driver to the economy, 99% of German companies are Mittelstand small and medium-sized companies and family owned. Their employees are highly valued. That's the backbone of the German economy and industry you fail to comprehend.

Your warped desire for a ruined Germany are nothing but delusional pipe dreams. They've been watching how idiots like you have been doing a cracking job of wrecking this country so certainly don't intend letting you muck theirs up.

You could Dave but the problem with that in your WTO fantasy land is under most favoured nation rules you would have to apply that tariff for everything. So much for cheap imports like food then. Also Grayling and some of your other ERG headbangers are suggesting just ignoring all that customs rubbish at our ports by just not bothering with Tariffs or checks at all. Feck it! The problem with that is firstly you wont be able to punish EU car makers in your little scheme and also why would anyone bother signing a trade deal when we are giving them zero tariffs. Fill yer boots! They dont really understand how it works I think. (lol)

Oh dear the Brexit bitches got it wrong again ... Honda have said it has nothing to do with Brexit ... Made for a good story and a reason for insults I suppose for a day ... Move on nothing to see here ... Another FAIL

As said, they are hardly going to shout it from the rooftops and Pi$$ off half their potential UK customers. Of course Brexit will have played a part.

You remoaners all whinge when you allege brexiteers will not accept what you selectively print and yet when you are proven wrong you can't accept it. Get real Barry.

We support car makers that support the UK and even if the model we buy isn't made here as long as others are that is fine with us so we wont be buying another Honda, not that the loss of one customer will bother Honda.

Honda's Turkish factory will also be closed - it will be very interesting to see how the usual suspects will wrongly blame that on Brexit too!

Not an EU country nor does it have fta's with them. Nice try no cigar. You're late in the day...other Brexiteers have already had a little orgasm over that one.

Honda's Europe boss, Ian Howells, said the automaker will focus its investments on China, the U.S. and Japan. "This is not a Brexit-related issue for us. This decision has been made on the basis of global changes," Howells told BBC Radio.

There's a very good reason for that - you lot post so much regurgitated cr#p and repeats that like many I have given up reading it all beyond the last utterings.

Apart from that you remoaners are so thick that you need to be told many times for anything to sink in!

Not only 3,500 jobs at Honda but another 3,500 in it's supply chain so at least 7,000 jobs lost now. Add that to the collateral damage done to Swindon itself and the reality is devastating.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2019/feb/19/honda-expected-to-confirm-factory-closure-business-live

Channel 4 news spoke to a couple of workers, one who worked there since leaving school so all he's ever known. His wife works there, his brother, and nine other direct members of his family. Most of these will be highly skilled people being thrown on the scrap heap.

Utterly disgusting, totally unforgivable, unnecessary and could easily have been avoidable.

Add in the fact that many potential UK new car buyers will no longer want to buy a Honda, it will affect the Dealerships also. ;-)

I will be in the market for a new car this year. I have not decided what to buy yet but one thing is certain .... it will not be European.

People certainly won't be buying so readily with increased tariffs....apart from the wealthy. Another way of ensuring that gap between wealthy and less well off increases ever wider. Though that won't just apply to vehicles. Look forward to price increases across the board.

Good luck on finding tariff free import and a British Brexitmobile. I trust whatever you find you will promptly rip out all European parts for fear of associating with 'the enemy'? You could of course opt for a McLaren if you've got £750k going loose for their budget entry model or a basic Aston Martin, very cheap at a mere £158k. Reliant 3 wheeler trikes were very non-European and British....in their time.
